    Yeup!

I personally have no problems introducing new characters into G1. I like that we have new characters. But all this waaa waaa about Drift makes me laugh...as much as the Sunstorm days...and I like him too!

Oh, and I like LSOTW as well. Me? I'll take all the obscure characters and left overs. If I'm tired of anything, it's the same old G1 cast reboot over and over again. And I'm and GeeWunner guy too. Can't we just move forward at some point. Quit trying to reinvent Prime. PLEASE!!

Exactly, they said the same stuff about Sunstorm. People have not enough to do if they get this worked up about it

I really don't know why Sunstorm was awesome. I like the fact no matter what bio or comic appearance he was batshit insane.

To most fans no matter what franchise, sound and are whinny-fucking bitches so. I rarely try to understand the whining, because I cannot jump to another conclusion that most are overgrown man kids crying about toy children.

I take what I get from the franchise because after all is a hobby. My life does not revolve around this.

Look at my post counts. I been e a member for 3 years now and I rarely post. Unless I feel inclined once in a while to participate.

And yet Marvel still created more characters and "shoved" them into G1. Really IDW has really restrained themselfs, they've only made 1 unique character and pushed him to the fore-front. Dreamwave did 2.5 of those.

The ongoing is a joke. It's Transformers in Name Only. It's all about Spike.

Marvel was writing the comics as the toys were fresh and new, which still had tons of new toys to come out (and at the time as it progressed, many would've been overseas only and not known about to the US kid reading - obviously the UK Marvel stuff would've known about a few more, but not sure on the years).

IDW is writing them for toys that are 20 years old, a toyline that is well finished, with all the base characters in place. Information on the toys in other non-US areas are easy to dig up.

Adding a character to a new toyline is not equal to adding to something that ended forever ago. Seriously, it's apples and oranges. Marvel's situation is more like if Dreamwave had put in a new character in the Aramada/Energon comic - and noone would've really cared.

For me, the annoyance with Drift, is that we were TOLD we'd like him, we were TOLD he was awesome, and we were TOLD that he was going to be "IDW's Wolverine" (at a BotCon panel, I believe). Add on that there's nothing original to him, he's super-cliche, shoved into a long-completed-ago-saga...yeah, no point. Hell, we even like cliche stuff - if you had replaced Drift with Star Saber, I betcha people would've thought it was awesome.

His toy kicks ass though :D

Good thing I wasn't currently paying attention to the comics news outlets at around that time. I seem to be one of those fans that judge the characters by their merits rather than the hype. And honestly, I wouldn't have noticed Drift that much had it not been for the fanrage some posters here have, as well as the wiki. This fandom could sure use a way to put things into perspective.

    For one issue.
    And then they died.
And were never spoken of again.

    Yes.

I can gleefully accept and promptly ignore all the fiction Drift is in if I wanted, but at least we got a fuckwin toy.

Because he was a seeker and based of that one background character in G1.

    This

    And this.

It's not like I'm in love with Drift or anything but the hate just makes me facepalm. Personally I'm all for introducing new charaters int the G1 universe. I dig the old characters but after seeing Optimus die for the 1,000,000th time I got bored.

The ongoing has gotten rid of everything that was good about the series in the past replaced it with an awful plot that is going absolutely nowhere interesting. We need a new writer, or Furman back (as much as I hate to say it).

I need to pipe in here. I have never once felt like the character Drift was ever forced down my throat, never felt forced that I would like the character.

Now do I like the character? Yes. Is he my favorite character? No.

I want to give this character a chance and enjoy him for my own reasons, no one elses or because someone tells me to or not to.

The amount of nerd rage though is out of hand..... I don't feel this character has desecrated anything for me. I am glad we are getting the mini series of Drift to show more of the back story of this character.

At the end of the day I can think of a whole lot of other worse things.

But that's just one mans opinion.....

    Take care,

    - Gregg

I'm not even a fan of IDW comics or Drift's portrayal in them, but I categorically disagree with anyone who insists that the only thing that G1 comics are allowed to do is remain in stasis.

What the hell kind of comic book is barred from introducing cool new characters? That's simply the bizarrest thing ever.

So basically, McCarthy jumps through a rare hoop in getting Hasbro to approve a new character for his books, fails to have that character in any way advance the main plotline (thus more or less relegating him forever to quirky background character...he does nothing other than add a little flavor to the setting), and everyone still foams at the mouth over it. It's a little appalling.

There are canonically thousands of Transformers. It's absurd that every character in a G1 comic had to appear in plastic between the years of 1984 and 1994. (Or they get grandfathered in if they were non-toy characters that some other guy made up during those years.)

I want to kick that Stuart guy in the balls. Anyone who thinks AHM would make a better movie than the current ones (and that isn't be difficult) deserve a nut-busting.

I have to strongly disagree with this. People don't/didn't hate Drift because he's a new character in a G1-esque universe; they hate Drift because he was introduced as the Wolverine of Transformers, because he is a terribly gimmicky character, because he was introduced rather badly (why would the other characters constantly wonder where he is or trust him when he's a known ex-Con?)...And the fact that he's the pet character of the man behind one of the most controversial IDW comics doesn't help, either.

I do agree that the 'rammed down our throats' argument is silly, though. Was he hyped? Hell yes, but not THAT much. On another note, I'm actually looking forward to his comic. Hopefully it'll give him some actual character development as well, since there is some potential there.
