Awesome work there Dusty - haven't chatted with you in a while.

I want to get the Halford disc but, honestly, I rarely listen to live albums anymore. I have DVDs galore and rarely watch anymore. Can't say why, just no desire to.

However, it being Halford and all I may have to check it out. I know you were secretly hoping for some Two songs to be on there - don't lie to me.

Friday I'm heading to Summer Slaughter for Vital Remains, Decapitated, Animals Not Leaders, and All Shall Perish.

Honestly, I do keep hoping he'll do a live version of "I am a Pig", only decrease the NIN-isms. I think it could be rearranged to fit the Halford setlist quite well.

I know what you mean about live albums...typically, I do not buy them. But Halford is Halford. ;)

I don't think any Two songs would fit in a Halford set - it was just too electronic (well, then again so are some Priest songs). I DVR Headbangers Ball every week but haven't had a chance to watch the past few until last night. As chance would have it, they had a Halford/Priest/Fight episode.

That's what I meant. He'd have to do a different arrangement on the melody, but the melody itself would easily fit, I think. Remove distorted guitars, add in Metal Mike, voila.

Summer Slaughter was excellent, albeit I was one of the older guys. What do you expect with a lineup of screamo-core bands?

Vital Remains slayed, as usual, but they were the first band on the bill (really???? They've only been together 20+ years, no need to let them co-headline or anything) so they only got a 20 minute slot. That meant two songs for them - that's it. The crowd was yelling for another tune but they couldn't fit it in.

Animals As Leaders were mind blowing. For those who don't know them, they are a three piece all instrumental metal/jazz hybrid. Eight string guitar and six string bass. Amazing stuff, highly recommended if you're into Cynic, Atheist, or Meshuggah.

I watched a little of Carnifex, Decrepit Birth, The Faceless, and Veil Of Meya - not impressed: blast beat/screaming, death vocals/breakdown, rinse, repeat. Ended up hanging out with the guitarist of Vital Remains. Great guy. He may have been the only guy there who was older than me, but only by a few years.

All Shall Perish get pigeonholed into some breakdown/core band but they are far from it. Brutal death metal, great beats, and they know how to work a crowd. Heaviest set of the day.

Finally...Decapitated! I waited all day for them and it was nice that half the crowd left (I guess all the emo kids can't handle straight forward death metal - the horror!). I had my reservations since this was their "comeback" tour after the drummer died. I couldn't have been more wrong. The killed. Heavy, fast, brutal, great vocals. One of the best death metal shows I've seen in a while.

All in all, definately worth a mere $18. I can't recommend Animals As Leaders enough!

Far too much metal being discussed here. Not enough punk.

Listen to LEATHERFACE. You're life will be better for it.

Wow, not posted in here in a while.
I'm currently trying to find an online metal radio station that doesn't blow goats. I've just worked my way through a fair few on iTunes and ....ugh, so much 80s hair shit.

    Any recommendations?

As an indication, my tastes are around the LoG, Pantera, Slayer area.

Thanks for the tip, but I just had a look and it's not available outside the US. Going to try Last FM next.
I did try Spotify but that only had a set metal playlist and didn't adjust itself to your tastes.

Anybody else ever check out Keith Merrow? Because you should. Dude rocks an eight string in ways that bend the mind. He lets you download his music to try out free and only asks for money if you end up liking it too, so that's pretty cool.

Really digging Distubed's new album. There's also a cover of Judas Priest's Minutes to Midnight on it.

Went to see Rush last night. Blew me away. The production, the song selection, the rarities and different arrangements of some songs. Just amazing. That was my sixth time seeing them and it was the best. Here's hoping they come back next year after the new album gets released.

Debating on going to see Malevolent Creation tonight. I'll probably pass but that's how I feel right now. Who's to say that won't change by the time I'm off work. Regardless, next show will be Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax and Vital Remains, Dying Fetus, and Cannibal Corpse - both in October. Been a great year for live music around here. What gives?

I think you are getting Maiden's "2 Minutes to Midnight" confused with Priest's "Living After Midnight".

I'm not a Disturbed fan at all, but in general I really hate it when people cover Priest (There are exceptions of course...always loved Slayer's Dissident Aggressor). I remember watching Godsmack try to cover Victim of Changes on some VH1 special honoring them and it was like nails on a chalkboard. There are people who can effectively cover Rob Halford, but they are all at least somewhat capable of doing a high metal scream.

That said, I checked out the song on youtube and it doesn't make me cringe as much as Godsmack and in fact I give him a little bit of credit for trying some different things vocally...but it's definitely not something I'd make a point to listen to again.

Bought Disturbed: Asylum on iTunes tonight. Great alblum. I have only listened to it once the whole way through, but it sounds as good as Indestructible does, maybe even a little better.

I'm a huge Disturbed fan and need to go pick up a copy of the new album. Anybody have an opinion on their U2 cover? I'm not generally a U2 fan at all, but have been known to enjoy some other bands playing their songs from time to time. Still having a hard time imagining a Disturbified version of "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For."

I've heard rumors that even though this track is supposed to be on the Limited Edition version of the album, only some people are getting it. Others are getting a U2less version, even buying the limited edition. Very confusing.
