So I've been paying close attention to all the movie news coming out. I guess it has seeped into my subconscious pretty deeply, because last night I actually had a very vivid, very realistic dream. In my dream, Michael Bay died in a tragic car accident during a brief recess from filming the principle scenes in Transformers 3. In my dream everything seemed plausible (as it always does in a dream) but even after I woke up, I had to check the internet to make sure it hadn't happened. In the fashion that the media usually reacts to a high profile untimely death, suddenly Mr. Bay was no longer maligned by critics and fans, but rather heralded as the second coming of John Ford, a true American original, a national treasure, a genius. An expedited afterthought was, of course, Transformers 3. It was hands across the world for this film, the last work of the late, great Michael Bay. Who would rise to assume the mantle of leadership, bravely stepping up in an effort to bring honor to the fallen genius? It was a media bonanza. Weeks went by. Rumors swirled as to who was the rightful heir to the film - would Spielberg step up and avenge his friend and protege? James Cameron expressed great interest in helming the last half of the job. Neil Blomkamp's name was heard on the lips of studio execs. Transformers 3 was suddenly at the center of an epic, unprecedented real life drama. In the end of my dream, it was James Cameron who finished the project. Buzz over the film was glowing with radiant positivity. The masterful action sequencing of Michael Bay with James Cameron helming the editing and directing process. The media love fest culminated as a somewhat genuine teary eyed Cameron told E! News at the red carpet Hollywood premier, "This one's for Michael." The movie was universally regarded as the best of the trilogy, and when I watched it, I couldn't help but agree. Then, I woke up. Anyway. My morbid question is, what would the real life scenario likely be if this were really to happen? Who would take over for Bay? What would the reception really be like?
I think you're thinking too much. To be honest, with the end of bay, the movie will most likely ended up being half-assed with another director, who takes over the project half-way. Maybe we'll even be treated to back to back viewings of his movies on tv.
Wow, you're dark. My Transformers 3 mentality had me imagining Michael Bay shooting part of the film in my Iowa hometown, and him letting me ride in the back of the camera car.
Thing is, though, it was a dream, not a vision. I was sound asleep actually having this full on, vivid dream. I didn't wish for it, it was just some odd convergence of imagination and information in my subconscious.
Uwe Boll would take over. Then he'd sue everyone who would download his trainwreck of a film. It'd probably be more of a trainwreck than what Michael Bay has created
That reminds me of a dream I had last summer where my mom was reading a review of ROTF and at the end of the review it said that Michael Bay died of cancer shortly before the release of the movie. Still in my dream, I went on the internet and found an article that said he died in an on-set explosion while filming the movie.
The media does tend to go a bit overboard when someone in Hollywood dies too young. I'm sure there would be tribute specials and everything if something so tragic were to happen. As to who would step in and finish the film that is a tough question. You know the studio would want to rush the film out to cash in on the tragedy but exactly who is a tough question because it would have to be either someone who is not busy right now or someone who was able to put their own project on hold. Oddly the only deaths I seem to have in dreams is of undead zombies. I've got way too many zombies dreams so I'd be more likely to dream up zombie Micheal Bay than any tragic event that actually got him to the point of being zombie Micheal Bay.
I think how you dreamt it is how it would probably unfold. The media usually overblows celebrity deaths, and hails the deceased as heroes, no matter what they did in life. Also, James Cameron's movies usually turn to gold when his name is mentioned, and everyone flocks to see them. He usually does an awesome job on these types of movies, so I could see him being chosen.
i think the project would be left on the shelf... being tied up in legal hell, until the premise turns into some kind of myth, spawning hoaxes, and a unintelligible mess that are the few shots available... leaving things open to ever increasing speculation, such that TFW2005 becomes the hub of the internet... spawning a war with 4chan, that spills over to reality. One army wearing guy fawkes masks... the other, Optimus Prime and bumblebee helmets.
Getting himself killed during shooting is really just too unprofessional. Michael Bay would never do that.
