That may have something to do with the fact that G1 Prime has been reissued a zillion times and there's an MP Prime.

Most of the "inaccurate" CHUG style figures are in a situation like that, or they are in a vastly different size-class or under different design constraints (e.g. the Ultras). Granted, that doesn't explain Galvatron, but there is a powerful marketing incentive towards realistic alt modes as well.

However, stuff like Cyclonus, Prowl, Starscream, those are pretty bang-on! So just pick and choose if you want hyper-accurate.

What business school did you go to? As long as you're not taking a loss on the item the risk is FAR less with a lower production run because the less you have the more likely you're going to sell out, and the more valuable they are because they're limited.

Unless your product is completely stale and won't sell at market price, it's a complete success.

You don't seem to have any idea what drivel you're spouting.

Uh.. those characters are still G1.
Anyone who is really "worked up" over this really needs to rethink their priorities in life. These are TOYS. But then there's a 19 page thread on people arguing over how to display seaspray, so nothing surprises me anymore.

LOL, I'm a scientist man, not a business man per se. But I can tell you, there is risk involved with limited runs. You are hoping that they sell out for the price you list them for. If not, you start venturing into the area of loss. You sell out your limited run right away? Good deal. However, I wouldn't want to bank on that for every subsequent release.

Also, you ignored my comments regarding how fickle the collector market is. One screwup and you could be sitting on that limited run for a while. It costs just as much to start the factory up for a limited run as it does for a run in the hundreds of thousands. Look at the 2005 BotCon sets. They FINALLY soldout a few months ago. That took 5 years.

And goodness, I must just have a bullseye on my back these last few days. Nothing but insults being thrown my way. I've been treated nicer by my classroom students.

EDIT: Also should add this - just because something is limited, doesn't mean it is valuable. That is highly subjective.

hasbro is multi million dollar corp that sells stuff by the buttload. Unless theres some retailer/event involvement they have no interest in limited run items because there is no profit in aftermarket rise in value. This is why exclusives are run thru things like FP and TFCC and you know what kind of prices those fetch. Did u see the butthurt it caused when classic thundercraker was released as a botcon exclusive? Hasbros priority will alwAys bd to pander to the lowest (or is that highest?) common denominator. So, uhh...

    I love lamp!

Buttload being business school colloquial for a lot.

Wherever it was, it was better than the charm school you flunked out of. Seriously. Learn some manners.

I didn't ignore your comment, I said, UNLESS YOUR PRODUCT IS COMPLETELY STALE. Obviously if you have a dud item it's not going to sell period. But if you loose your ass on an item you put out in bulk it's going to hurt a lot more than a limited run. And you sat there and schooled the guy you quoted about how wrong he was and you were giving very poor advice. So I don't see why my response was so harsh by comparison?

That was never my point. I did not at any point in time reference Hasbro. My point was that his disdain for a short run business plan was flawed. It's clearly working with MOTU, and I would recommend it for any unknown product. They do it all the time. Even Hasbro releases stuff to a test market first. It's really not even a business plan, it's just common sense.

Gee, does this mean you don't want to be my friend?

I think I'll get over it. Maybe you should try not taking things so personally.

Indeed. And so ironic that pretty much everyone on TFW who owned the Botcon 07 set and who commented when Takara released the Henkei version was pleased that more people could get the character.
And meanwhile, where were the people who had complained about the Botcon release? Let's just say I remember one dickhead in particular asking us BC07 owners "WHERE IS YOUR GOD NOW?"
Sense-of-entitlement butthurt can be nothing compared with smug assholishness, believe me.
I don't give a toss how rude you are. You'll probably find, however, that more people will feel inclined to discuss things with you properly if you knock the snarky crap off when you reply to them and converse with them politely. It's called manners, and it usually takes less time than it does to insult people.
Simply a heads up, which I am sure you'll ignore anyway.

This is a good thread for the most part. Let's not descend into personal attacks that lead to it having to be closed.

There does seem to be a lack of manners in this thread. I certainly don't expect people to agree with me, but I'm a tad tired of the personal attacks. I'd prefer some good examples over name calling any day.

Also using MOTU as your prime example is not a good one. There are plenty of outraged fans over that line and how the exclusives have been handled. That line has a mess of problems IMO. One of which is potential fan backlash.

I will also reiterate this: just because an item is limited doesn't mean it is valuable (or going to be).

I'm still utterly puzzled as to why they picked Cindersaur anyway.

I think the business school jab falls under the insult category. My bad. Not technically name calling :p  However, I was called rude and a black and white thinker earlier. Very unflattering terms.

Anyhoo, you are entitled to your opinion. Might want to be more tactful when expressing it though. Insults usually don't sit well with people.

Hasbro are more inclined to larger production runs by economies of scale. A figure aimed at a smaller market will still take the same amount of time and money to design. The same overhead will have to be accounted for.

On a mass market figure, this becomes a small percentage of the overall unit cost, but for a small production run, it becomes a lot more substantial and will affect the profit margin. You can raise the price of the item to compensate for that, but the more you do that, the more you shrink the pool of people willing to pay for it.

I reckon if Hasbro devoted more resources towards catering to fans, they'd find they had to put in a lot more work fighting for a lot less money.

LMAO, so true. And like Draven, I'm still wondering why he was chosen over someone like G2 Sideswipe. Horrible decision.
