I thought Seaspray was a Classics/Universe design but Hasbro had to market him as HftD because retailers wouldn't go for a fourth line?

I don't like Legends. I'm still waiting for all those characters to be made into Scouts or larger. I don't mind that minibots get made larger when their vehicle modes are larger. Powerglide turns into an A-10, how should he -not- be bigger than Sunstreaker?

Anyway. I have several movie characters in my collection, mostly on the Decepticon side. Mindwipe, Lockdown, etc. But, Bludgeon and Seaspray are the only 2 I actually acknowledge as Classics, because *drum roll* Hasbro said so.

Oh darn I bet some heads will explode then since I'm mixing War for Cybertron figures in with my Classics figures.

Honestly I don't really see that much movie about Seaspray. He's got almost human proportions unlike movie figures with weird legs, strange arms, or a weird number of fingers. He's nice and armored unlike the robot zombie look from the movie figures. His scuba mask and breather are too cartoon like to be movie with it's weird faces that look like insects or something.

The Classics aesthetic has so much range to it that it has room for some variation. What's next saying Drift can't be placed in a Classics collection because he's a bit different than other car Autobots released before him? Or what about deluxe Classics Grimlock who differs from G1 Grimlock in robot mode?

And with those human proportions and his alt mode like mentioned over at the Allspark he would make for an excellent repaint as Waverider's Pretender shell.

That's more so since he is based on Pretender/Legends Grimlock :D

But all in all Seaspray, Bludgeon, and Mindwipe have an aesthetic of their own... In which that they aren't really fully movie line and not fully classics either. So where they go in your collection is up to the buyer :)

He very much fits in with Classics. He doesn't have any of the movie aesthetics.

Other transformers fans like myself have a bit of a imagination. also other TF fans are much more flexible when it comes to transformers toys in their collection & out on displays.

POINT IS,That 2010 new mold Sea Spray is a updated homage based off the 1985 seasspray character/toy. so technically it can fit into any TF display or storage box the TF fan choses.

There are those TF fans that prefer the live action styled movie toys over other TF toy lines. because the live action TF movie toys are being made for much older kids & more catered toward veteran TF fans/collectors. not everyone likes play school type gobots or animated styled TF kiddie toddler toys.

Heck,i'm so flexible with my TF toys. that I consider the toynami MP Robotech skull leader toy & macross MP Skull leader toy as my master piece styled Jetfire toys. I also consider the 1990 Takara brave Dino-geist as a TF Zone/battle stars Grimlock upgrade toy because it was a cancelled TF toy that got put in the Takara Brave toy line. Dino-zone/dinozaurs bandi ultra red t-rex & that evil dragon leader make great beastwars toy. NOT EVERYTHING HAS TO BE IN BLACK & WHITE & LABELED A TF toy. to be considered a TF toy.

If Sea Spray didn't have the movie chicken legs design he would've been a shoo in for my Classics shelf. Those legs just scream movie to me which is why he stays in my HFTD guys. I would've considered Lockdown and Bludgeon for my Classics shelf too but they have the Mech Alive feature.

The chicken legs thing isn't a movie exclusive aesthetic. Figures have had those before. And I don't really think they're chicken legs anyway.

Have you seen those TF Prime designs??? they look pretty complicated to transfer over to toy form.

it was a extremly hard task for the takara designers to create toys based of the Animated art designs.

those TF Prime designs seem a lot more complicated to transfer over to toy form. because there basically a combination of the animated designs crossed with the live action movie designs.

Then there is the 2011 TF3 toy year. those TF3 movie toys will take up all the resources, time & toy budget money. because lets face it,the live action TF movies toys sell way better than all other previous TF toy lines.

There is a lot on hasbro/Takara's plate for late 2010 & the whole 2011 toy year. there is currently ROTF,HFTD,Generations & the TF3 movie toys. So trying to create new TF Prime toy molds & squeezing them into this choas toy release schedule won't be a easy task to accomplish.

At best we might see,TF Prime toys, maybe getting released with TF3 toys. or a few months after TF3 toys.

I have my doubts TF Prime will get a full toy line like AEC & Animated received. at best the first year will be all deluxes with under 8 new mold figures. while if the demand is still there for the TF Prime toys & cartoon. then well see a full blown TF prime line 6+months after the 8 deluxe TF Prime toys get released. 2012 seems like it'll be a TF Prime full blown toy line.

Agreed, it's all personal opinion now since more than one line is released a year. Some acknowledge CHUG as a continuation to G1 while others really don't care. I mean I feel the point is moot since the CHUG toy line have repaints from the AEC toy line. Plus the Universe toy line we know of today is really a sequel of the Botcon's Universe toy line which was a continuation to the BW/BM series which was a toy line consisting of toys from Best Wars, Beast Machines, Beast Wars 2, Beast Wars Neo, the Japanese side of Generation 1 and Robots in Disguise which RID had Generation 2 toys in it's series. What about the other convention fictions from other exclusives like TFcon? Shoot the AEC have repaints in the movie line as well. Then you throw FP and many other 3rd party companies in the mix who try to make their products exist in their own universe (to avoid copy wright issues) yet we all acknowledge their products to be part of CHUG which again many acknowledge as G1. Then again where does G2 exist in every one's mind etc... what is acknowledge and what isn't? What about the Titanium, Alternators/Binaltech, Asterisk, Kiss Play, Alternity and the Masterpiece series? We even got characters from the Gobots mixed into this mess.

Battle for the Allspark, NEST and Hunt for the Decepticons are a set of sub lines from the fMovie toy line. I didn't even realize Powercore Combiners was part of HFTD until I saw Bumble Bee and Ratchet fought Smolder and Chopster.

This topic kind mirrors the Rumble /Frenzy discussion.

What about the comics side of the TF franchise? Where does Marvel, Marvel UK, Fun Pub, Dream Wave, IDW and many many others fall into this discussion. Look at toys like Drift and Dark Mount (Straxus) who originated from the comics.

    MY HEAD HURTS. :(

It's good to get this issue that's been bothering you out of your system, but whatever the case, (this goes to everyone) have fun collecting and don't worry about what everyone else thinks. Ignore their opinion on what you disagree with and listen to those that you do.

Other than Beast Wars, which pretty much makes it non-avoidable with the animal style legs, what other lines feature those type of legs other than movie figures?

None come to mind as far as G1, RID, Armada, Energon, Cybertron, Alternators, Classics, or Animated go.

At least none that I own and can see from my shelves from where I sit.

It doesn't matter. Most of the movie and classics figures fit into my "Not in a cartoon series" section anyways. :p

Classics and Universe had some figures with chicken legs. I never collected the Unicron Trilogy, so I'm not sure if it had any.

Mind giving examples? I don't recall any figures with those kind of legs in Classics and Universe. I think Cheetor had them but again, unavoidable with it being a Beast Wars figure. Which is also why I didn't pick on up. :D

I also don't consider rehashed figures from other lines as Classics as well even though they were released under Classics.
    :lol

    You ass! :p

Seaspray is one of the blockiest figures in my whole collection. He couldn't look less like a "movie toy."

That said, if I saw him in a movie collection, I wouldn't start a whole thread to judge the owner on his "rose colored glasses."
