So is this thing going to be classic Optimus colours, the Rolling Thunder colours, or out of nowhere, like G2 Hero Optimus colours?

I tend to agree, but I have a soft spot for warbot defender, PE-01FR, and CC armor.

Anything that makes money on another company's IP (without their okay) as the main driving factor is a knock-off. Whether it's an original mold, or mold of an existing toy of that company the IP is stolen from. This toy for example attempts to infringe on both GI Joe and Transformers with being a rolling thunder prime likeness, yet makes no attempt to license to do so from the IP holders. This is different in japan as things that infringe are allowed to be sold only at cons by law. (Whether the company in question endorses it or not.) Whereas in china, you can pretty much infringe on anything you want, and sell it anytime and outside china law doesn't matter. It's why Nintendo had to go after the companies that send parts to the chinese factories as opposed to going after the makers themselves. They managed to curtail the production of certain devices by making those companies aware of what was going on, and other means which then halted production in the factories as no one would deal with them... Well until another company stepped up to take it's place, then repeat cycle.

So while it's an original mold, by not being licensed, it's a knock off. But to each their own, as I said, I still thoroughly enjoy the garage kit figures I have inspite of their origins, just as much as I enjoy my robot masters victory saber I got for 3 dollars.

As for the grey area, it's kinda moot, so long as these guys are all based in china, the infringements don't really matter as China has different laws when it comes to that. That's why even the warezy rom emu devices for DS and modchips come from china. The most hasbro could do is pursue sellers about it that aren't in china. But that can be costly, and not worth it overall.

Simply resembling protected material is not infringement. Drift "resembes" a Bugatti Veyron, Universe 2.0 Sunstreaker/Sideswipe "resemble" Lamborghinis. I could list more.

Hasbro does the same thing with real world vehicles, and they do not pay Audi, Porsche, Lambo, wutever royalties for all the toys they sell. AFAIK, only GM has officially granted permission to Hasbro to copy vehicle likenesses.

If you wanna talk infringement, talk I-Gear.

Not buying this "Rolling Thunder" prime because it's a "ko" is laughable.

HA! Here's a great example of how everyone is entitled to their own opinion but that opinion can actually be proven wrong. :)

Knock off = counterfeit. Counterfeit = recreating an existing product in an attempt to pass it off as the real thing. Third party original molds/designs are not knock off, and that's backed up by a globally recognized definition of the term.

That aside, I'm disappointed that it looks like an almost complete redesign of Don's work as now it seems more like a toy a fan designed based on nothing. But I'm ok with that because it will lower my impulse to buy it and save me some money. :)  Of course for those who are still excited for it, I'm excited for you because it does look awesome.

Well they'd have to deal with blatant copyright violation then, I'm glad that most of these companies are at least not just copying things verbatim.

Are you guys seriously going to have these dumbshit KO debate in every single third party thread? This is getting pretty fucking annoying. Please just shut the fuck up for the sake of everyone who actually want to discuss the toys in these threads. Just make your own thread called "KO Third Party Bitchfest" where you can piss and moan about the stuff as much as you want. That way the people who actually want to discuss the figure don't have to scan through pages and pages and pages of your bullshit to find someones actual legitimate opinion on the figure.

Is Gundam Heavy Arms or that Superhuman Samurai Cybersquad Robot an Optimus Prime Knock Off too then ?

Wouldn't a lot of folks LIke Gi Joe Crossovers too - Maybe we'll get that after the 2nd Movie comes out - but Hasbro wouldn't handle it properly anyway they don't understand what is required they'd try and shoehorn robot modes on to the drivers and characters like Snake Eyes rather than do what would go down better with Transformers fans which is Transformers Characters with Gi Joe vehicle alternative modes.

I agree...it's getting really old to stroll into EVERY new thread about a third party product only to sift through 70 pages of argument and only like one ACTUAL page of discussion involving the product.

With all the rules we have to follow here at TFW, you think maybe it's time for a new rule? Maybe, um...stay on topic? Maybe a sticky'd thread at the top of the forum for the debates?
