I am hopeful for this too, but it may not be happening. Hopefully Galvatron shows up in a year or two if, as I fear, Roddy ends up being a big boy.

 

Gahhh. I came into this thread hoping that MP Rodimus would look awful. I don't like the character at all so I was hoping to save a bit of money here. DAMN YOU, TAKARA, that looks superb.
Except the hands. Not keen on them at all. Nonetheless, I'll definitely be buying him.

 

The more I look at the prototype, the more I lost my memory on the difference between Hot Rod and Rodimus Convoy (except the face and size).  

 

There really isnt much of a difference in robot mode, which is why this could easily pass as both with a face swap. Rodimus' proportions are just longer, mostly.

 

I always kind of thought of it as the difference between Mario and Super Mario.  

 

I guess, the real question is, who's pre-ordered already?

 

I don't preorder really expensive stuff any more, the timing can work out badly in the end.

this figure is a dream come true. i've wished for this since i saw the 86 movie,

I pre-ordered it, but I'll eventually cancel if the final price is too high. Won't be the first time I've done that.

 

I wonder if those are just temporary hands to be honest. They look like B-Club Gundam Manipulator hands. I'm guessing the hands are still unfinished on this prototype.

As far as windshields go, Rodimus Prime has a more rounded windshield that's stubbier while Hot Rod has a longer, sleeker windshield. Not all animation cel's show it.

Edit: Anyone doing a group buy on this to save money? And anyone know how much shipping from Robot Kingdom is for something like this?

 

The hands will have to be small enough to go inside the forearm compartment.

I've preordered, and have no doubt I will keep it preordered. There are just some characters that I liked growing up that I feel I have to have the best version of, and Rodimus Prime is one of them.

 

I can understand this. I remember playing with a g1 rodimus prime with no idea who he was at that time as a kid.
That said I'm on the fence as to a pre-order. Let's face it, $200 is ALOT of money. Because I have other bills to pay, also because I have alot of high priced figures to catch up on. RiD Omega Prime, BTs. Im dieing for a buster prime. That said I want the figure and if he is a HotRod/Rodimus multiple mode figure I REALLY want him and he'd be my first Takara Masterpiece. My Prime is original 20th and Skywarp is the walmart exclusive.

 

That IS a lot of money for one figure, especially compartively to other TF figures. I'm crazy and fortunate enough for this not to break the bank too badly, but if I wanted to be a bit more frugal, I'd be willing to bet that he will be stateside at a much smaller price within a year or so after the Takara release, and I'd wait for that.

 

Don't count on that. The movie is looming in the horizon, so all non-movie stuff that's not been announced is not gonna happen. So at earliest, your looking at like 1 year after the movie comes out, so like 2-3 years or more away.

 

Im Irish and Italian....waiting not such an easy thing.
