First of all: The Bay-verse is stablished, there is nothing since the first movie anybody can complain about that.
Second: Despite their weird ans twisted designs, they have supporters and detractors, as anything else in live (i'm already used to them).
Third: Autobots (despite the massacre in Cybertron) were always more than Decepticons, you need 3 Autobots to match the power of a single Decepticon, there are so few Autobots that can stand alone against a Decepticon.
Four: If the thing is as it's looks... the Wreckers are called just in time... or perhabs too late!!! (anyybody notice the fulll scalation Decepticon invation that is shown in the filming takes?)
Last: At this point who cares about how much G1'ish are or not the characters, they weren't from the beginning!!!

Why does that truck have flames on it? Why does Bumblebee have stripes? Why is Starscream not bright red and blue? Why is Barricade not an F1 Racecar? Why is Bonecrusher not a bright green construction vehicle? Why are Ratchet and Ironhide not boxy vans?

    BECAUSE ITS NOT G1!

Possibly the most short sighted thing I've ever read/ Essentially you're suggesting that either every line ever should be a direct homage to G1, or that every new line that isn't directly doing so should use (increasingly obscure) new names?

No kidding. This business of not being allowed to call yourself a fan because you like the movie franchise is getting REALLY old...

That's kind of the point of the Wreckers team.

Dude, you are not alone. I pretty much agree on everything you said. I am sooo f#cking exited for this movie that I come on the boards everyday to read new news.

You are right, there is way too much people bitching on these forums. At least it looks like they are happy with the characters and design so far.

I too never watched G1, nor do I even know half the characters that is going to be in TF3, and I don't care either. This is not the 80's. Its 2010.

What is better: the old Bat Mobile or Nolan's version? would you still want James Bonds' Aston Martin to go invisible or fuck up when he crashes it...in 2010?

Get over it people, there are thousands who didn't grow up with it and still enjoyed first two. Myself included - born in 1990.

I believe deep down that this will be the best one. We just gotta wait and see. I believe it.

While I mostly agree with you on all points, saying "it's a popcorn movie" is just a piss-poor argument, as others have said before me, time and time again. A movie doesn't have to be "an Oscar-worthy film" to have solid writing, character development, good pacing, and a cohesive plot. And ROTF, while enjoyable (to me), was admittedly lacking in those areas. Star Wars and Terminator 2 are "popcorn movies" that are able to maintain strong characters and narratives. Hell, I think the first live-action Transformers was able to as well.

Let's all just admit that ROTF was a bit flawed (if not enjoyable), stop making excuses for said flaws, and move on.

Just joking. But then again, can we believe ANYTHING they say about the movie in these early stages.

I don't know that it's totally insane to say a character should fit into the mold of what a person would expect.

If you were making a movie and you said Abraham Lincoln was in it people would expect a tall rather thin man with a beard, dark hair and a stove pipe hat. If instead of that you gave people Arnold Schwarzenegger's Mr Freeze people would have a legitimate reason to say hey that's not Abraham Lincoln.

This doesn't mean that you have to be totally slavish to the past, just that you should figure there are some basic requirements. A bit like how Doc Ock in Spiderman 2 isn't exactly like the Doc Ock from the old old cartoon series, yet there is enough of what people expect of a character named Doc Ock for them to know the character right away.

Just because they are robots it doesn't mean just throw stuff out the window because somehow robots don't count as characters. Just as much room for a mix of old and new as there is with a human character.
