Hell yeah, although I'd prefer a faceplate (That may very well be in the movie) but he is as menacing and as evil looking as hell. I love it.
Megatron doesnt look G1 but he is still a badass. Optimus doesnt look G1 but he is still a badass. Starscream doesnt look G1 but he is still a badass. Bumblebee doesnt look G1 but he is still a badass. Ironhide doesnt look G1 but he is still a badass. Sideswipe doesnt look G1 but he is still a badass. So yeah Soundwave is ok.
Normally, I'm not that fazed about character in Movieverse not looking like G1, but this pushes it for me. The problem I have with it is that Soundwave looks like any generic Decepticon. He's got the eyes, eyelids, menacing teeth... he doesn't look anything like Soundwave anymore. Anything that was unique and iconic about him in G1 (and ROTF) feels lost with this design.
Doesn't matter prime is going to take his face anyway! Seriously though, I think it's fine, would be cool if he had a mask like prime does.
I think they work, especially when you factor in his voice. Plus, it's not like they're really huge fangs. Just there because he has a mouth.
All I was really hoping for was either a visor, faceplate or vocoded voice, not because it's G1, but because it helps set him apart from every other Decepticon. At least one of those will set him apart visually and make him unique. I'm not saying he isn't unique already, but he'll be moreso. And also probably because I associate those with Soundwave, since he's always had them in the cartoons; G1, Cybertron, Animated and now WFC. Nothing's wrong with him being different, so I'll take whatever I can get, but those would help with his image of being unemotional and calculating, though that really depends on what character he'll eventaully get in TF3.
Not crazy about the mouth. He's got a lot of cool things going with the combination of past Soundwaves and new stuff, but the mouth just sort of ruins that nice mix of the old and new. As other people have already pointed out it just makes him too generic like he's just any other Decepticon in the film. It's Soundwave one of the fan favorites so he needed to stand out from the rest. Plus Soundwave is normally shown as this ninja like character who can fight but when the odds don't favor him he's willing to slip off into the shadows. Lots of times he's been shown as Megatron's ninja in the shadows gathering information even on the other Decepticons for Megatron so a face plate just gives Soundwave that ninja like look that a mouth can not. Also would it really hurt these films to actually give us a Decepticon that looks cool instead of just the rather generic idea of ugly space monster that has developed for the Decepticons in the movies.
I'm not liking the mouth. I know the design in ROTF technically did, but that still looked like a faceplate when he wasn't talking. I can't see that being the case with this here.
Exactly. Nothing needs to be g1 anymore and the only reason they are doing it slightly is to keep a specific group of people happy. I think it looks badass and I have never watched G1. We need these new robots to be gritty, mean looking and plausible to fit in the real world - and so far its been like that. For this modern Gen of movies such ad the new Bonds being grittier and TDK's joker being menacing, these robot designs are great and appeals to the mass
so everything just has to be bad ass ? lol the most over used word in describing movies and it in my opinion ruins potential for character development because every character has to be "BAD ASS" so they all turn out to be the same in the end. How about give them character maybe some characters can be cool? How about charismatic ( crasamatic if your rumble ) loveable quirky eccentric dumb luggish joyful or sinister. see when everything is just bad ass then nothing really gets accomplished except for putting the same stupid macho template on every flipping character. Shockwave still has hope though because he at least looks the part now its only up to whether they have someone bring the Voice talent in to make him a cold methodical decepticon.instead of just hey im yelling like a bad ass. Id like a visor and a face plate to go with that please. No no it just looks better that way thank you
I'd prefer a mask. But he looks close enough already. For me what says Soundwave is his Decepticon symbol head. If he has that already I'm happy.
OM NOM NOM >:<> Naw, it's whatevs. As long as he tromps and stomps around and squishes cars and deploys little minions, it's all good.
It's Soundwave, so I don't care. Besides, it could be a concept image - The Fallen's and Jetfire's head designs in ROTF were different from their concept images, so the finalized look for the film may be different/the ROTF design. Either way, I'm happy he's in the movie(s), and to add icing to the cake, he's voiced by Frank Welker.
I am rather amused that people go "It's not G1 so whatever!", when he already had an insectoid mouth in RotF. So apparently not even continuity inbetween movies matters, especially when it was already a look that worked extremely well?
