What if the "hair" was something like this???

 

Jetfire's "beard" at least looked like it was made out of metal shrapnel. Like he had a faceplate that had started to deteriorate and break apart. This looks like full on human type hair.

That may be what they are going for, but it is still a hard concept to get across, because as proof in this very thread, most will just look at it and go "Robo hair WTF?"

He almost looks like a...dog?

Though it could be Perceptor, given those glasses. This most likely is the alt mode of the Mercedes we've been seeing.

 

Look, I love the bayverse... but this is ridiculous.

This looks like a robotic caricature of Albert Einstein, plain and simple.

People hated the faces of Skids and Mudflap... but at least they did look like the ALIEN robots they were supposed to be, something this thing clearly does not.

If that's the design direction the movie is taking... I'm not interested, at all.

Imagine what the Nascar guys will look like...yikes! This is just stereotype bullshit. He is a scientist, so he looks like Doc Brown? WTF?

 

I'll try not to judge until I see the complete design, but that's just weird.

 

looked at the picture again and now i'm not really sure who this could be. whoever it is, they're small. It can't be the red Ferrari and can't be the blue Mercedes, and we haven't seen any newer vehicles on the set, so i'm just going to say that it's fake and Michael Bay's just messing with us and keeping us guessing. but if it is real, it's got to be an Auto bot that's in robot mode throughout the whole chicago scene, like Optimus in Egypt in ROTF, it explained why his alt mode wasn't on set in Egypt.

 

Okay. Am I trolling? Sorry if I am. Just offering my opinion. Now and then, yes repeating myself. Don't mean to hurt feelings. I actually don't hate movieverse. I quite like what they acheived on the whole, visually. I wish we got to see more of it, since Bay moves his camera way to much and fails to show us enough onscreen transformations.

I think the aesthetic is 70% of the way there. I like most of the designs, love very few. Sideswipe and Long Haul and Brawl are the best examples of design IMO. Starscream is cool - I do like his face. And Bonecrusher was very cool. Ironhide's face is awesome, but his body is too much junkpile. The idea of lots of detail is great - realistic, makes sense to translate G1 to live action. They just needed to streamline the shapes 30% more towards movie ironman. It seems like they can divide metal panels as many times as they want, so why junky aesthetic? No reason. Again Sideswipe was great... I like the alien robot feel to the moving face parts. And I like how the autobots have a mamalian feel while the decepticons more insectoid/crustacean faces. Great. Ratchet is awesome too.

But I think where Bay shows his true colors - his lack of taste and inability to respect true scifi fantasy is the dumbing down what could be awesome alien robot designs. The Twins from movie 2 are a perfect example. Someone showed him the animation and he was like - "Cool! They're cartoony and like dumb and stuff! Perfect". He should have restrained himself and pulled them back to fit visually into the universe he designed. I didn't mind Jetfire's beard - it wasn't a beard - it was metal shapes. The gold tooth on the twins sucks IMO. It's too far.

There's so much good design that could be done that I hate to see piss poor stuff flung at us diehard fans - so sorry if I get emotional and repeat my negative comments. But I do feel my face slapped when I see this weak design.

I take your crit, I'll try and be more constructive in my posts. This design doesn't make me excited, it saddens me. That's the long and short of it.

That's my big problem with it too... too "Twins"-ish. Even Jetfire, I found, was too human-looking. We need to remember, that these are robots from outer space. They're not supposed to look like humans. It kind of ruins the effect if they do. Ratchet's face design was about as close to human as I'd like to see a "human-like" Transformer be.

 

With a little editing, it IS Einsteintron!!

 

What if it is fake? Bay could just be trying to keep the new character under wraps and doesn't want any bit of it to be spoiled by just one picture. So he put this one in instead to protect the real one from leaking to the public too early. Maybe this was a rejected design, although it does looks pretty detailed and rendered...

To me it looks very dog like, so I'm thinking it's Mojo's alt-mode.

yea sorry Bay... no hair man. the design is TOTALLY banging but i dont like that hair. its just too far. do like Jetfire's beard and make it metal. the fiber optic "hair" is just TOO ridiculous. it just looks like hair... and a robot shouldnt have hair. nah man. nah

Sorry to get on the defensive wagon again, but I just want to point one last thing out. This is also becoming another rendition of the "The concept was totally fine until the evil that is Michael Bay ran with it!" bitch-fest. Sorry if I'm rude for putting it that way, but that's what it is.

The concept of Transformers with hair has been around since G1! NOW it's an issue?! I don't understand it....
