Mel Gibson is yet again embroiled in a racism scandal. I think this is a very sad downward spiral of a truly talented actor whose mercurial personality and allegedly racist upbringing just keeps getting the better of him. It reminds me of Dog Chapman, except, Dog really knew how to apologize.
Not only racist upbringing, but clearly abusive too. I don't blame her for wanting to get herself and her daughter out of that dynamic. Definitely NOT What Women Want. --Moony
I enjoyed his Lethal Weapon movies and I heard many good things about Braveheart, but this is a guy with severe bigotry and anger issues that I doubt can be fixed easily. I won't be surprised if his hollywood career takes a tumble after this.
Seriously, what has Danny Glover have to say about this, or Jet Li for that matter, Mel has worked with people that he's discriminated against, but never surfaced till now? Or is this a case of a white dude using the N-word liberally? Not that I condone bigotry, just trying to understand which category Mel falls into. On another note, seriously, if the N-word is such an offensive word, then EVERYBODY stop using it, no exceptions.
I never liked the guy, but now that there's actually reason to dislike him, I just feel sorry for him. I can't respect him enough to hate him. It's pitiful. Anyone who knocks out their girlfriend's teeth is scum. But some of these quotes are kinda hilarious:
Braveheart and The Patriot are awesome movies. I don't understand why people think actors are so perfect and inspirational. Then the fans get let down when they do something stupid. They are normal idiots and a-holes that can pretend they are someone else, nothing more.
I laughed too when I read that, not for any malicious reasons, simply that it is so stark raving nuts and clearly indicates a total disconnect from reality. "You're dressing like you want to be raped" followed by "I'm gonna burn down your house, but you're gonna blow me first".
Mel's greatest work was We Were Soldiers as Hal Moore. As far as the racism comment and going off the deep end, people screw up but alcohol speaks volumes... Loose lips sinks ships...and he needs to go to the corner for a time out. From seeing Hollywood actors acting and saying what they wish out in public like an unexpected entitlement, apologizing afterwards only makes them look like bigger douchebags. They're NEVER sincere... They should think before they speak anyway-politically or otherwise.
