Thats pretty damn cool though, is it big enough to eat Earth? I think we should have a seperate Science discussion forum, that would be cool.

 

Pretty cool stuff. The planet is actually so close to the star and so hot that the atmosphere has expanded thermally to the point where it has begun basically succumbing to the gravity of the star and is in the process of being sucked away, as if the star were some kind of fusion furnace / megamaid

 

That just doesn't seem right, a star eating a planet. If it were a planet eating a star, I would that's cool, but star eating planet just doesn't sit well with me.
Still pretty cool.

 

Only problem is, is that the plant will take 10 million years to be devoured...

How would a planet be able to consume a flaming mass many times larger than itself? Why doesn't something falling into the colossal ball of fire with the huge gravitational pull seem right?

 

I'm think we've found Unicron's alt mode for Transformers 3.

Stars are assholes. Sitting there in space converting matter to energy with their great big gravity wells and then fucking up every thing around them when they die.

And don't even get me started on the really big ones that turn into black holes...

To be fair, we don't have the imaging capability to show the "real thing" in anything more than a few pixel blobs that wouldn't mean much to you or me.

 

Well, there are many types of stars: yellow stars like our sun, red giants, brown dwarfs, neutron stars, etc. This is just saying the star is likely similar in relative size, composition, and age to our sun.
