Whats a good way to use xbox live with a wireless set up? I'm about to get an xbox live account and wireless internet is my only option so whats the deal with that? Ive never used it before and ive never been an online gamer type but i'm trying to get into it.. Wat do?
Just checking before I help do you have the wireless adaptor for your Xbox 360? As you can't connect your console to the internet without it. Amazon.com: Xbox 360 Wireless Network Adapter: Video Games
Sorry to go a bit off-topic on this as I haven't picked up a wireless adapter for our 360 yet, but I didn't realize that particular adapter was coming back! It looked like Microsoft had discontinued it last year or so. Saves me another ten bucks (plus I have Prime), so thank you for that Recall.
You can either directly connect your router to your xbox via ethernet cable or get this official adaptor for wireless conectivity. If you want wireless you have to get the adaptor. Use your laptop for what? As a proxy? Then I don't believe so but i've never looked into it.
I was just gonna connect my laptop to my xbox. Would that work or what? I'm so computer illiterate it's not funny... ;_;
for my original xbox back in the dark ages, i turned on internet connection sharing on my pc and plugged my xbox into it. thinking back i had a usb modem, so there was no other way. yeah, dunno if that would work these days XD
This. Your laptop is not an access point. You have to have a wireless adapter and a decent wireless router. If you just have a normal wireless router I'd go with a long Ethernet cable. You take an ethernet cable and put one end into your Router and the other into the ethernet port on the back of your Xbox. Go through the set up and voila, its done. You don't need to do anything with your laptop.
This is how my set up, and pretty much everyone else's works: Now some of us can use our Xboxes to access digital media, such as pictures, music, and video files on our home computer; since you keep mentioning your laptop, is that something you're trying to figure out how to do?
If you have a laptop that is connected by wireless to your router and its running xp to 7 you can simply select both connections in network connections\manage network connections (under network and sharing center) right click and choose bridge. This will allow you to use your laptop to get wireless and pass it to your xbox using nothing other than the standard ethernet cable.
I would definitely go wired if you can work it out. It's much better for gaming and streaming media. That said, if you must go wireless, you aren't required to buy the official Microsoft adapter and you actually can use your laptop as a bridge to your Xbox, but it may be a bit more complicated that you're needing (and is something I've never personally used with gaming).
