Could anyone tell who that black shadow was that Prime charged towards?

I'd wanna say MEgatron...but it's hard to tell.

What is that at 1:14-1:15 during the opening? I dont remember Megatron having that form in the TV series. The opening is great but wow, the series is definitely nothing like that. lol.

It was fairly good, but this also depends on the point of comparison. If I were to choose the animation that they should use as a benchmark, I would go for the animation of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex". It had great animation and rarely did I see any errors. I also would have wanted better action sequences.

Animated's characters were both unique but needed less detail. In my opinion, art like that could take advantage of texture shadows and lighting. The character designs shown in the video of the Japanese opening didn't change, but it was fairly dynamic, because they were able to show the reflection and shadows on the armor IMO.

Same reason Arcee and Blurr display weapons they didn't use in the show, to sell toys. Conversely, that's why human characters aren't there.

Yes, but in fairness, you also rarely saw any MOTION, as GitS mostly involves people standing around not moving, taking endlessly, punctuated by brief bursts of fantastically-animated action.

It's a more exagerated, "dark" version of Megatron's Earth form.

More to the point, it had plenty of money and was made at a top tier studio by a director that learnt from some of the best. Conditions like that don't exist for shows that are made for the sole purpose of flogging toys, not even Japanese ones.

Not necessaary true since Japanese TV programs are longer than american shows by 2-3 minutes. That is why anime on adult swim are either missing the opening credits or cut out the preview trailer and shorten the opening/ending credits. You may not be able to tell the difference unless you have seen the original ending/opening credit. I also assume that is why the japanese version has a longer opening; to stretch out the running time w/o adding any extra scenes.

I've noticed this a lot. I remember watching various anime such as Naruto, DBZ etc. and seeing the American version having a less interesting opening.

Though the Japanese do stretch the opening a bit more, I think it is beneficial for the show. The way I see it, the openings are summaries and give clues to what happens in the series.

Just like in the most recent animated opening, the opening of show Gun X Sword would black out mecha that haven't appeared yet. They also give a sense of excitement about what happens next.

That's an interesting point, but we must also remember that many of the characters in Ghost in the Shell have more complex features than that of animated. From the machinery and scenery that surrounds the characters to the anatomy of the characters themselves. Also the Ghost in the Shell series also has a lot of politics and philosophy mixed into it, meaning that its supposed to have a lot of talking. The way I see it, when taking that added complexity into account, it still surpasses a animated and a lot of cartoons in terms of animation.

This to me shows why Transformers cartoons haven't been as successful as many other cartoons. They're mainly made just as advertisements for the toys, not shows that can stand up on their own.

You make it sound like they aren't cutting out bits of the show. They are. For time. So they can fit in a live-action segment at the end.

Can't say I blame Hasbro personally, toys are thier business and its not like most kids really know or care how intricately written or animated cartoons are once you get above a certain level.

Those were my initial thoughts. Since Takara is trying to tie this series to the Bay movies, its likely that there will be major changes. One thing I'm hoping for is that this series will bring back its former glory in Japan.

I deeply apologize for digging this up, but I did not see it until just now.

Never before has there been a more awesome compilation of cool stuff that no one will ever see outside of these quick glimpses. I love/hate you, Takara.

You can't use the anime with the highest budget ever as a benchmark for a show made to sell toys.

Does Massaki Endo (Gaogaigar) sing in this too?
