    That's pretty much me too.

I feel some TF shouldn't ever get Earth-style forms and Blurr is one. Him, Springer, Arcee, Kup and Hotrod. Although Arcee has done a nice sideline in motorbikes, but for a car mode I wouldn't want her to be an Earth car.
Personally I'd rather Blurr have had his own new mold and Drift be the repaint.
I'll still probably get one version or the other. I was going to hold off on Drift and see what his repaint might be but I'll probably go Drift now because the mold just doesn't feel Blurr-y enough for me, especially with the Earth alt and with me already having a pretty good Blurr in the Animated figure.

Earth mode Blurr eh, I can dig it. Certainly an unexpected choice, which I like.

I had the exact same thought. They even both have double launchers on their shoulder area (at least for the toy, Wheeljack only had one in the show).

Mixed feelings about the way Drift turned out.

Drift repaitned into Blurr: No thanks.

I would've prefered something either closer to the IDW version, or a reimagination of the G1 version, prferably w/Haywire to boot. (i'm dreaming now)

Of course future comics will probably be 'tweaked' to justify this latest round of 'One character is always a repaint of another'.

I look forward to Kup and Hoist being the same mold in the near future.

Using the comics as your guide? Drift doesn't even use the toy's alt-mode yet, and with all the resets, there's no guarantee he ever will.

Well we all know how the toys and cartoon models didn't always match the description of the characters perfectly. Generally, they all looked sort of the same in terms of proportions, etc. Blurr was described in his bio as being a lean greyhound of a bot, and this is always how I preferred to see him. IDW decided to re-envision him as an olympic Sprinter... all power. That's an interesting take, but I still prefer it the other way around.

And the Drift mold looks a bit clunky no matter how you slice it. Of course, I guess that makes him poorly suited to be a ninja-bot too. :)

Yeah, exactly what I was thinking (I think we replied only minutes apart! :)  ). Tracks was the first thing I thought of when I saw Drift.

Y'know... that's a REALLY good idea. Your logic works perfectly. Now that you mention it, it's almost too obvious to ignore! If only Hasbro would take the hint and follow through and make a kick-ass Wheeljack mold that can work that way... AND SOON. :D

Y'know, Haywire could be the newly-molded weapon mentioned in the Q&A. Between Universe Cyclonus and the PCC stuff, Hasbro seems to be on a Targetmaster kick.

I'm not a big fan of this mold-sharing at all. It's one of those areas where I'm rigidly G1.

To me it's very important that Tracks is a corvette, and Wheeljack is a ... very different type of sportscar. And Hoist already has a pre-established repaint character. I don't care if it takes another 10 years of waiting, there are some characters I'd rather see get their own mold than double up.

Repaints for the sake of repaints, there's no shortage of characters that would never get a shot at their own mold.

Again, Pointblank for the Drift mold.

I think Cybertron Breakdown GTS would do a better Kup than BotCon version.

Um...how many G1 toys shared molds?

    Optimus Prime / Ultra Magnus
Sideswipe / Sunstreaker / Red Alert
    Ratchet / Ironhide
    Prowl / Bluestreak / Smokescreen
    Jazz / Ricochet
Post-movie Minibots (Pipes, Outback, Hubcap, Tailgate, Swerve, etc)
Targetmasters Hot Rod, Kup, and Blurr
    Inferno / Grapple
    Hoist / Trailbreaker
    Rewind / Eject

    The Seekers
    The Coneheads
    Targetmasters Cyclonus, Scourge
    Laserbeak / Buzzsaw
    Rumble / Frenzy
    Runamuck / Runabout

And this doesn't count toys borrowed from other toy lines (Diaclone, etc), G2, E-Hobby recolors, Throttlebots (basically reshells), or Micromasters.

Oh, and FWIW, I'm probably not interested. Like others, I have Cybertron Blurr and Animated Blurr (I like the latter more). I really want a real Kup - not a BotCon thing I can't afford, not Brakedown GTS...I want a frickin' futuristic pickup truck. I might settle for an SUV - but I don't want to see the Classics Ratchet / Ironhide mold used again. That thing looked awful in alt mode, IMO - I couldn't bring myself to buy either one, even though I love those characters.

    Yes, I'm picky....

I believe Bumblethumper's wish is not "no mold sharing whatsoever", but rather "no mold sharing on Classics/Universe/Generations toys unless the originals shared a mold".

The question is: who would buy this character? I'm pretty sure he 's a nobody to 99% of the world population.

Now it's debatable if Drift or Blurr will do much better among buyers (not us, the fans). These characters' names probably mean as much as Dimplesticks and Gigglepants and..you know, whatever those transforming robots are called. However, Drift does have an appealing look, and has swords. Blurr? Somewhat interesting name, and probably a color that will be attracting for kids. Now I'm sure if they'd give Pointblank this mold it would still sell decent for a TF toy, but it also makes sense to me why they'd rather go with Blur.

Then there's a small percentage of people who might know Transformers better and will remember a Blurr better than a Pointblank.

Only then comes the small percentage of hardcore fans who will buy any TF as long as it's a good one, or are waiting on specific obscure characters like this.

@Digilaut - I would buy a red repaint of Drift called Pointblank.

    I love the mold PERIOD.

Yeah that's what I meant, I should have been clearer about it. Repaints can be awesome. Obviously there's no sense in being against repaints. I'm just against the ones I don't agree with. Naturally Hasbro aren't in the biz to cater to my every whim, but that's not going to stop me putting it out there for what it's worth.

Absolutely, he's a total nobody. Most of the TF figures I got as a kid were nobodies to me(still tends to be the case). A cool toy was a cool toy. But judging from the kind of reaction I've seen on the boards, fans tend to appreciate homages, no matter how obscure. Sometimes it seems the more obscure the better. And there's a wealth of old forgotten characters to draw from.

I take your point, I understand why they would go with a more recognisable character. But I also feel sometimes a snazzy colour scheme will make about as much difference as character recognition in whether a toy will sell.

I'd agree that Pointblank may be too obscure of a character for Hasbro to release in retail, but I could see Fun pub doing that repaint as a Botcon figure, some day in the future.
