Can people recommend a good, cheap editing package for me?

All I really want is to be able to edit things, cut bits out, add vocal tracks, maybe, but really just take a 15 minute video and cut it down to size (and cut out the naff bits).

I've heard there are some that can be downloaded for free? Is this true? Are there dodgey ones and safe ones?

I'm in the UK so that might affect buying and downloading.

Adobe Premier Pro is good. Otherwise you might want to try Virtual Dub.

Adobe Premiere ELEMENTS (the consumer version of Adobe Premiere PRO). It should suit your needs fine.

I studied Graphic Design a few years ago and I think we used Adobe Premier. It was very easy and intuitive to use. I'm not familiar with the others.

Is Sony Vegas better than Adobe Premier or equal? Because I use Sony Acid Pro for arranging my music productions and was wondering if it would be similar in use to Acid Pro.
