This might seem odd but I've actually been putting off doing Sound Wave for years. I've done many different Megatrons, Shockwave's and Star Screams but never Sound Wave... till now. The reason for putting it off was simple... I honestly didn't know what to do with him. I don't like Mass shifting, Jets are something I tend to just leave for Star Scream and trucks/vans just seem too minor for him. So I had to think what vehicle has a function like SW. To me a spy craft seemed the most logical choice but I had a goal in mind when it came to the robot mode, I wanted to keep to the G1 silhouette with as little kibble as possible IMO the very square but human shape was a key part of him. So if I were going to go down the plane route the Wings would be an issue. To fix this I went with a Cyberteron based alt mode thus freeing me up to keep the robot mode the way I wanted it while the alt mode could be changed to fit my goal. Colours are done. A twist on the Ipod/SG look since I don't think classic colours would really work well here
That is a pretty cool alt mode, where does the nose of the jet fold up in robot mode? I've been having the same problem coming up with a non-mass-shifting alt mode, glad you were able to overcome that problem with such a cool solution.
sadly its a bit of a cop out its stored on his back and when transforming it just slides over the head and missile pod.
I really like this, and I like the approach of keeping the G1 silhouette, as I also think that's very indicative of SW. Awesome work as always
I can't fault the art much, it's great and I can appreciate the direction you've taken and trying to make it slightly more unique. Yet I personally don't quite like the colour aesthetic. I'd have preferred a cyan I think instead of the blue, it doesn't seem metallic enough for the kind of unit that he'd turn into if it was an Earth mode (kind of a loose argument, but I hope you appreciate the sentiment). As I said, it's a purely aesthetic preference. I keep on expecting to see a more metallic sheen.
I dig how he's SG white, but he's still evil and that you still a great job keeping him the same when he was in the cartoon. The alt mode is iffy with me, but I dig it.
yeah the Alt mode is more about function then anything else its not something I'd think he'd use much. The cassette's will all be drawn on the same page in a kind of comic cover shot. So far only Frenzy is set in stone but Rumble, Laser beak, Ratbat, Ravage and maybe Buzzsaw are all going to be on it
What kind of alt modes will the cassettes have? I'm surprised to see you went with more of a Shattered Glass color scheme with him. It looks good with the little blue you added to him.
I've got a DA page. Blitz-Wing.Deviantart.com So far their still cassettes since I wanted to keep the G1 gimmick but their all done with similar flat surfaces like SW and have white as a main colour
