    Hey! Thanks for the reply.

I was already under the impression there were explanations in the books, but I certainly feel there were none in the movies.

That was precisely my own explanation why they didn't go that route: the skies weren't safe up until the death of the Witch-King of Angmar in Pelenor Fields.

Hmmm ... I've seen the extended edition of FotR several times, and don't remember any clear mention of the eagles being proud, nor that being the reason why they decide to go to Mordor on foot. I agree with it being made clear that the One Ring could more easily influence the proud than the humble though.

Oh, you sure can. The same way you're doing with the LotR movies: by using alternative sources of canon (novels, comics, wiki pages, etc.) ;)

(Note I'm not trying to compare the LotR trilogy with TFTM07 and ROTF: I know which are better movies)

Couldn't that reason be averted by Frodo riding the eagles into Mordor, rather than the eagles going by themselves with the ring?

    You're very welcome! :)

Even with the books, you have to pay close attention or else it'll seem like the story has that "major plothole."

Are you sure about that? There were still the remaining Eight to fear, which is why things became really grim at the Battle of the Black Gate until the Eagles arrived. As long as the One Ring remained intact, the remaining Nazgul would continue to keep watch over the skies of Mordor. Thus, once the Ring was destroyed, all of the Nazgul, along with Sauron and the land of Mordor, were forever vanguished.

Like I said before, the Eagles did not care for the troubles of Men and so they would not involve themselves in such affairs.

    Very good point, dude!

Nay, for even if that were to be done, just the presence of the Ring is enough to corrupt the proud. Just look what it did to Boromir.

You also have to think of how much that was cut just to squeeze the books down into movie form. That or just changed all together like how the hobbits got their swords.

Oh yeah. Don't remind me about that. I wanted more content from the books in the movies, and even without all that was left out, the extended editions are close to 4 hours each.
