Just because he's "hidden on a remote African shore" doesn't mean he's amphibious.

Nice, simple, and believable transformation. He could become a second favorite next to Classics Jetfire.

The only sticking point for me is no G1 head, but the scuba mask and gear look more appropriate. The hovercraft alt mode is all kinds of awesome and it's freakin' Seaspray for crying out loud. He'll be mine.

This is definitely a movie design. I think that they are changing the packaging because they do not want us to get desensitized to the ROTF boxes at this point. Also, since they have a movie Ratchet repaint advertised on the box, and Hasbro redecos figures to work in other lines, but rarely if ever advertises different TF toy lines on the same packaging. Definitely not G1 Classics/Universe, just G1 inspired.

I don't know. I find I'm more willing to tolerate "chicken feet," specially in Sea Spray's case since it's not as noticeable as in other movie bots (Starscream, Dropkick, etc.), than the horrible, horrible arms of Cybertron Shortround.

I do think Shortround's hovercraft mode is closer to G1 Seaspray's, but what is Classics/Universe/G1-inpired-movie-figures if not reimaginings of G1?

WOW! That's a great custom. But notice all the work done to the arms and the head. No way that custom is proof that a Seaspray out of Shortround would be a better Seaspray than 2010 Sea Spray.

You know.... folks keep mentioning that Seaspray.... er, Sea Spray.... is 100% a movie figure because the co-sell on his box is movie Ratchet. But I submit, for your consideration, the Target exclusive Leo Prime's box:

    Leo Prime

The co-sell is Stratosphere, he's sure not a Universe figure. I'm not saying this is definitive proof that Sea Spray is NOT a movie figure, but there has been a precedent of cross-line co-selling before. Although perhaps the rules are different for store exclusives.

Me, I don't really care. I like Movie figures, I like Universe figures, I don't mind that their design styles have bled into one another. And clearly Hasbro is trying to unify their offerings a bit, which is why the whole back-and-forth of this thread is taking place.

I think Seaspray looks fantastic. Yeah, he's not a straight G1 update, but he's a nice re-envisioning and looks like an excellent standalone toy. Adding the "deep sea diver" element into the mix is a neat new spin on the character. I love the fact that his head can actually swivel up.... that shows some attention to detail, like the designers really wanted folks to be able to put him in those diver-like poses.

Then it's not "chicken feet" but "duck feet." :D

Seaspray doesn't have chicken feet, just extra-fat knees. :)

1.Movie series never or seldom reference Human looking, like scuba or flipper.movie design most reference from animal or insects.
2.Movie design more like mechanical skeleton with metal skin,SeaSpray is block design.
3.most movie series Deluxe/Voyager/Leader has Automorph or Mech Alive, but SeaSpray deosn't.

SeaSpray more like same design concept with Onslaugh,Powerglide, but because it's a boat,so they didn't add sound/light effect and downgrade from Ultra to Voyager.in Armada/MicroLegend year book 2003,they said the original design of TidelWave has sound/light effect, but considering children like to put boat in water and water will ruin electric system so they removed it.

I honestly think he could fit in with either Movie or Universe, kinda like Bludgeon.

Although he DOES have box artwork stylized in the same way all the other Universe toys do.

Maybe we should ask HASBRO where he belongs at Botcon?

Did they ever say exactly what Tidal Wave would have done if he had electronics?

Did any other toys have features that got canceled through the design process?

okay, i'm confused here. so this is a new tf's line? looks like more typical movie garbage but is this part of universe/classics or something else? didn't hasbro say that universe will continue eventually? so is this part of it?

Maybe they care more about making cool toys than how a bunch of nerds like us arrange our shelves.

^What confuses me is how some of us nerds can be so damned fickle. It feels like plenty of people would just up and buy this toy if Hasbro said it was meant to be Classics, or do the exact opposite if they said it was a movie figure.

If you like the damn thing buy it, if not don't. Completist-types aside it doesn't get much simpler than that.

Like I said, I'm displaying Seaspray with Longtooth riding on him, holding a borrowed harpoon and chasing Sky-Byte.

    Screw categories.

Who cares what line its from?!?

It's a hovercraft that folds up into an amphibious robot which makes excellent use of any vehicle "kibble" it may have by it letting become something useful for underwater exploration. Scuba tanks from the air cushion, underwater propellers from the fans, harpoon guns from the cannons, a backpack from a working vehicle deck! Everything has a second purpose. And all the extra details! Scuba mask, breather unit, hoses, oxygen tanks, underwater propellers, water/harpoon cannons, FLIPPERS!

Everything works to compliment either mode. It fucking rocks and this toy deserves to be bought no matter which series it lies in.

You realize you must recreate that in a photo and post it for all of us to see, yes?
