This is probably why the constructicons were seen running around in battle while Devastator was formed not all that "there are two teams of constructicons" excuse

Exactly. They couldn't really think of any way to justify it, so they just made up an excuse.

I was fine with Grindor. I kinda figured that he would have been of the same protoform as Blackout, hence why they appear to be similar.

But the Constructicon clones, especially ones that were fighting the Autobots AFTER they all formed Devastator, and seeing a Bonecrusher clone in the mix were just wrong.

I don't mind some "clones," but not clones of characters that are Combiners or of characters already killed such as Bonecrusher.

To be fair, if Hasbro had the chance they'd probably name the other clones with new names too such as Demolishor to Scavenger and Blackout to Grindor.

They just didn't because we didn't get new toys and for those we did it was the first release of each.

I wouldn't have minded clones if only they'd have different colors.

Example: technically we never saw two green Long Hauls in robot mode, but one truck (or two actually) and one robot was confusing enough. Maybe they could have made one yellow or blue or whatever. Same goes for all the constructicons.

Heck, if all of Devastator's parts would have had similar vehicle modes, but different colors, it would already solve alot.

I'll have my clones. Why? Because the cloning will probably allow Devastator or some of the other constructicons to do something in the next movie. Also they make for legitimately interesting repaints. I just don't know why they haven't cloned SS and given new heads to make seekers..

I don't mind clones if there is a good story behind them...or at least an explanation!

Why see Devestator again in the next movie when we could see a Bruticus or a Menasaur??? Given how much money and cgi they can possibly do they only probably can only do 1 combiner. I rather see a different Gestalt handed the movie treatment.

I agree with you. But as for Starscream, he's one of the only few that talk, they cant give that away.

It matters where they uses the clones.... But with the Constructicons it was over used and I didn't like it one bit.
Grindor aka the remake of Blackout and the remake of Barricade aka Sideways I didn't mind because it worked well!

Devastator would be bad to bring back because he's such a damn wimp. Sure he's big but he's only a treat to our sand. He has trouble taking care of the twins, it looked like he was having a tough time attacking a pyramid, and then he's killed by one shot from the US Navy. Who needs a big guy that's not going to kick ass?

Perhaps Bruticus or Menasaur could actually kick a little butt before the inevitable Autobots and the US military kill all the Decepticons.

Clones? No problem. Just make them distinctly different colors, please. Grindor/Blackout was a little too close to the same colors. The original autobot bros. are a good example. By using a theme, like a cop car and a racing car with crazy colors and stripes, and then one that's plain gray, you really give them each a distinct appearance.

Heck, even use different heads if the colors are kinda similar, that couldn't cost ILM too much.

What I don't want to see anymore of is generic Protoform armies.

Or they could just make Devastator stronger, like Optimus, who was struggling to fight Megatron one-on-one in TF1, but was able take on Megatron, Starscream, and Grindor in ROTF.

Don't we already have "clones" and repaints running around in ROTF, saying those were clones to begin with would clear some things up.
