I was really disappointed in it when I compare it to the big events that Hasbro managed to pull off for lines like GI Joe and Star Wars.

It just seemed like instead of hey lets do something really special for the 25th with the Universe line we already have they just slapped a sticker on figures coming out anyway and said well that is good enough. If it was really going to be a big event then why not roll out the figures fans have really been wanting like a deluxe sized Jazz and Wheeljack. Or how about a redesign of the Starscream mold so they could release a three pack of Starscream, Thundercracker, and Skywarp that wouldn't hurt the people who already had the exclusives.

Perhaps my feeling is wrong but I got the feeling of bugger off our movie fans are important but all the other fans just aren't very important. Even their excuse about how they can't mix styles seems to fall flat because they put things like Cybertron figures in movie packaging so it just seems like a load of bull that we could not have 25th and movie at the same time.

On the bright side though I didn't really have to shell out much money for the 25th since Hasbro wasn't offering up much.

Was there a celebration at all? It looked to me like they just put a little silver on the packaging of toys they were going to release anyway, declaring it a 25th anniversary. The Prime re-issue was a nice idea for the five people in the world who didn't have a Prime yet, if it had been packaged with a DVD with a documentary about the legacy of Transformers it would have been a worthwhile purchase, or an official Hasbro book the equivalent of the original Japanese Generations book, that would have been awesome.
Don't get me wrong I got some great toys, but 2008 was a much better year for TF's in my opinion (but then I'm not a fan of the movie toyline).

I would have to agree with most here about Hasbro, but I think Takara really made up for it with Reissue Cassettes. I was to the point of thinking we weren't going to see anything past Laserbeak/Buzzsaw, Ravage, and Steejaw, so they really made my year with Encore 15, 17, and 19.

Great year for me ! I got the ROTF & Henkei / Universe stuff which I didn't have yet !

Simply awesome year. I wish I could say that for my other hobby too; videogames.....the videogames industry is in a creative slump imo....

From a British perspective, it was somewhat non-existent. Looks like the 26th anniversary year will have more to celebrate!

Apart from the silver 25th logo on some stuff, and MP SW, I'm struggling to think of what else we got. The G1 stuff's never shown up here yet, all hail Kapow.

I had no idea it was the 25th anniversary of that the universe line existed until i walked down a toy aisle on a whim for the first time in years... I found a universe starscream and have been steadily growing my collection since.

That said, I think Hasbro did a good job of bringing me back to the transformers collector fold after over a decade.

For the most part I feel that the 25th anniversary was represented well. It could of been epic but it was still great.

The efforts seemed haphazard; I think Prime was a real attempt at a celebration, and I see the relevance of his release; Soundwave was nice but I wish he had hit retail. He would not have shelfwarmed like Prime IMO. Aside from that I think most of the "25th" stuff would have been here anyway if this was year 23, just no silver sticker.

Hey, this is my last post of the 25th ann. year...

ROTF came out - good thing.

Bad thing - little to no celebration. We should've had a "Turtles Forever" crossover like the Ninja Turtles did.

    I was disappointed.

Universe 2.0 wasn't a "25th Anniversary" line, it was a spin-off line from Movie 1 toys, with the promise from Hasbro to retailers that the line would be similar to the movie in realistic vehicles/colors. The toys that were not "realistic" were, if anyone noticed, either shortpacked or only in one wave and a .5 wave.

Movie 2 was nothing in relation to the 25th Anniversary.

IDW Publishing didn't do anything at all ... in fact, they ruined their own continuity, published a "THE ULTIMATE CONTINUITY GUIDE TO IDW TRANSFORMERS COMICS" that had so many errors that it's more confusing than informative.

Transformers Animated wasn't really an anniversary show or a celebration, just another re-imaging of an already well-scripted source material.

We did get the re-issues of Optimus Prime, the Insecticons, and Perceptor. Those are pretty close to an anniversary item, seeing as they are all original 1980's figures.

Otherwise, most of the things we got, if homages, had a "25th Anniversary" sticker on the package. Some of those characters were released with the idea that they would be paying homage or tribute to an original character/figure. But there was really no "celebration" or "anniversary", the anniversary itself just happened to fall during the release of a product-line that allowed them to release some throwback-ish items.

Overall, I'm disappointed that more couldn't have been done. I understand the limitations and guidelines that Hasbro has to follow, but as far as really feeling like there was a "celebration"? Fail. Not even at BotCon did there feel like a celebration. It really felt more like a marketing campaign than anything else. Like "Hey look guys, Transformers has been around for 25 years! Cool! Buy this!".

    But oh well.

I was happy. I got MP Skywarp, SDCC Soundwave, TRU Insecticons, TRU Perceptor and another version of G1 Prime. What did you guys expect? Hasbro reissue the entire G1 line?

I'm sure if ROTF was not released in 2009, we would have gotten less figures released.

All things considered, we didn't have a comic company collapse on us or a TV show that many still rate as one of the worst ever made like the 20th anniversary, so we're one up on that.

Though I do agree with Kickback's point that there wasn't a real "hey wow 25 years" moment. I guess the movie elbowed that out a bit.

I don't think many of us were expecting the full G1 line up plus all the other big characters from over 25 years. But darn you would sort of expect them to hit some of the big name Autobots and Decepticons that haven't gotten the update treatment. Maybe even update some of the early Classics figures that are showing some age compared to the newest Universe figures.

Even the stickers make it seem like an after thought. It just seems like Hasbro could not be troubled to make a new card back on the deluxe figures so lets add a sticker to the old packaging.

    I'm not gonna disagree.

I would add that a release Masterpieces of Megatron and Grimlock would have been a step more in the right direction.

The new game sounds more appropriate for a 25th Anniversary than 26th or 27th- whenever it gets released.

I think the GI Joe fanboys feel more content with their 25th than we do.

I agree with you, but wish they would have focused more on re-imagining just G1, 25th Hotshot was not good, and so many repaints for a celebration of the 25th year, was a dissapointment but I did love what we got, minus the ROTF toys, not for me.

Kickback, man you are dead on bro....

Been a long time G1 fan since I was a kid and I just started collecting again mid 2009 and found it nice to see all the Universe Deluxe figures that paid homage to the originals. I did not buy any of the 25th Anni G1 Reissues thou as I'd rather have the 80's originals in comparison.

Would have been nice if they re-released some of the Classics line to go with the Universe 25th Anniversary Packaging as a means of having a some what complete line/series for the Anniversary.

I couldn't agree more. There wasn't really any celebration. It was just "Hey! 25 years of Transformers! Now buy our shit." Sad. But, I still have hope that for the 30th Anniversary, they'll probably do something.

    Something good, at least.
