Do you think a "Rated R" Transformers movie would be good?

they already have enough corny sexual references to choke a space bridge so it would be down to more violence and language. i don't think the language is necessary and i don't think that it would mean more robot violence but rather human violence. i mean, prime ripped the fallen's face apart and bumblebee tore ravage's spine out... pretty graphic, but because they're bots, they can show that in a PG-13 film. so do i want to see humans graphically killed or have the bots dropping f-bombs... hmm. i think it would be superfluous... unnecessary. i think a robo-carnage movie with graphic battles where humans and bots get killed would be cool but would still most likely be only PG-13. I don't think it's "awesome" to hear them all say the F word every few seconds and i definitely don't think there should be more nudity... what would be the point of that? mudflap fapping his oil filter to a picture of arcee without her armor on?!?

    But, but.. Dr.Smoov! ;)

on a more serious note, the fact that Dr.Smoov's stuff is so amusing does rather hilight how ridiculous it'd be for prime et al to be spouting profanities. Fluffwise, i'm not sure how you'd explain robots swearing their tits off either.

I don't think excessive swearing, graphic violence and nudity are needed to make a movie better, especially a movie about alien robots.

At the beginning of Revenge of the Fallen you see the Fallen step on a human, would the movie have been any better if you saw blood, intestines and bone fragments squirt out ?

Transformers wouldn't have been such a success if it wasn't for them kids right ? Do not try to tell me that teens and adults were the only ones who wanted to see the movie ? I've seen there is a new generation to love transformers and by ya know R rated or what ever is gonna BOOM no Transformer anythin in the future. So ya know, anyway all that viloence and shit sounds like Zombie movies and stuff.

As a personal preference, no. To get an R rating, like many others have said, they would need to try really hard. To that end, the movie would become more gratuitous then fun.

Horror and gravity can actually be invoked in film without extreme gore. For example, the Dark Knight was a rather good film that did not need much gore to imply how dangerous and evil the Joker really is. The film, despite its intensity, still got a PG-13 rating.

Finally, to get an R rating, for me, would sort of ruin the escapist fantasy of Transformers. It's pretty much like what would happen if James T Kirk of Star Trek started using a Bat'leth to hack Romulans in half with (green) blood sputtering everywhere, or like what would happen if Obi Wan Kenobi pulled the lungs out of Stormtroopers while gouging their eyes out with a (pocket) vibroblade. This is just my opinion anyway.

No amount of robot violence will amount to getting it an R rating

To get an R-rating, you need:

    - sex scene with TnA
    - dropping a load of F-bombs
    - graphic human casualties

But I'll guarantee as much as you think an R-rated movie might be cool, when you actually watch humans die and a sex scene, you'll be thinking WTF!?!?! This is not the Transformers I used to know

R rating doesn't help anything if the plot is bad.

HELL YES!!!!!!! I remember seeing the previews for the first film back in 07 and said oh shit!!!!!!!!!!! and to me it looked like a rated R film, and when I saw the film it had elements of an rated R film, it just had to be pushed a bit with the language, violence and Megan Fox action.....I remember when I saw the trailer for the second film online when someone recorded it during Friday the 13th and man it was like a trailer for a horror film......even some of the content in ROTF seemed like an R. So I would almost prefer it to be rated R. More language, violence and Megan Fox action.....HELL YES:D

Unless they take the sex and foul language to a whole 'nother level, there's not much they could do to get an R rating even if they wanted to. The MPAA doesn't seem to care much about violence except when it's depicted towards humans.

There is no reason at all for Transformers to ever be rated R.

I would be happy with just a Transformers version of something like GI Joe: Resolute. An updated, adult oriented continuation of the original series. That would make me very happy.

From the looks of things, this should have been a Poll with comments if you want.. but from what I can tell and IMHO, no way should TF3 be rated R..or any TF movie for that matter.. First I'm pretty sure that while Hasbro doesn't mind the Robot carnage, they would and should have a problem with Robot/human carnage. It's really not that important to the storyline--most of the time--Yeah, Megatron wants to wipe out the human insects, but we don't need to see it happen on screen, I'm pretty sure we can all use our imaginations just fine..obviously a lot of us are older and enjoy a great story and excellent CG Robots to go with it, much more than blood and gore. Leave that to Anime' not live action..:popcorn

Transformers is a children's toy line, and with luck, will always be a children's toy line. So, no, bad idea to make it "adult oriented".

    Agreed.

Sorry if I'm repeating what maybe have been said in this thread already, but R-rated films don't perform as well at the box office as PG and PG-13 films. It's no secret that these films are being made to make money and sell toys. An R rating defeats that purpose.

Personally, you don't need profanity, sex and gore to make a movie that can be enjoyed by adults. Look at the original Star Wars movies. And I don't like the idea of Transformers going down that road.
