So to sum it up...FP is ok to issue a "crappy or meh" figure based on the fact that it is a freebie?

And this is to inspire us to join...give them money in the form of membership dues and buy more exclusives from them that are way higher priced than normal mass released TFs?

    Yeah that is Ass backwards...

You should be enticing folks with a better membership figure and lead up to better exclusives....

If this is the best they can do after the combiner set and astrotrain/seacons....they are in trouble...considering the omega doom figure will not be out for quite a while...that mold they are using is a piece of plastic shit and it totally unworthy of being used as any sort of exclusive repaint...even if it is the FREE figure....

"Crappy" or "meh" is only YOUR opinion.

    Others don't share that opinion.

Anyway, nobody's forcing you at gunpoint to sign up, so if you don't want it, then pass.

Cool idea, like the colors, but a terrible, terrible mold.
THIS is the best news coming out of this toy reveal, from my perspective.
    That is indeed good news.

Maybe the repaint of Jolt will be the Decepticon who killed him in the cartton ^.^

This is just one more reason to sign up now (as soon as I can sort out my f&@%ing bank)

It's not ass backwards at all. Companies in other industries do this too. "Sign up to get our exclusive Hello Kitty credit card!" and such. And it's not like TFCC is doing something HasTak aren't doing themselves.

Ideally, the Collector's Club would have new molds made exclusively for their promotional offers. But that will only happen if they can convince people to pay a lot more money than they're asking for now.

Unfortunately, being in the UK makes joining the club rather expensive, and of little worth, even if we are getting such obscure (and very cool) character homages!

Heh. I like this and I like Hot Shot. Have the Henkei version of the mold and I think it's great. Sure, it's not the brightest star from Universe/Henkei, but it's not as bad as all the bitching on this board would suggest. Frankly, I think it's pretty cool that they're offering us a figure of an obscure character. Be nice if say... Orion and Aerial were to follow. Or, perhaps another G1 cartoon character that never saw toy form like Devcon or someone similar.

I believe the board rules are we are not aloud to share things from the members only area of the club site.

When you boil it down the club membership has 2 advantages the "free" figure and the Botcon discount. There are a lot of club members who can't/don't attend botcon. For them this leaves just the "free" figure.

I agree that from a business perspective FP should save the popular characters for the botcon sets and the club exclusives to maximize their profit. I do like the idea that we're getting toy representations of obscure characters, but where I think FP missed the boat is:
    1) The Universe Hotshot mold does not scream Dion, even if it had a remolded head. Personally I think Universe Ironhide fits the character better than Universe Hot shot.

    2) The Universe Hotshot mold wasn't overly well received, esp Jolt.

Bottom line is that FP should choose a mold with more appeal when it comes to obscure characters.

Oh no, not the Ironhide toy, that will just add some circumstantial evidence to the "Dion is Ironhide" arguement

even though the design would work, or to use a recent enough pick-up truck anyway :D

Cyclonus would make a good Devcon, I thing there is a digi bash on the boards here somewhere.

Hell, if the club wants a steady stream of revenue, they'd have a seeker repaint as a freebie every year. Sure, people will be pissed, but the club membership will hit an all-time high. They could even do the energon seeker mold and get Gaihawk, Hooligan, and Hellbat.

As for the cost, I'm sure the club makes more than enough excess from the Botcon and other club figures to offset the free figure. So having the free one as something enticing would give the club plenty of membership money. I know Brian said at Botcon that the more members they have, the more money they'll have to put back into the club features.

Also looking at them Ironhide is pretty spot on for for Orion, hell all a kit basher would have to do is pain the head and shins blue and your pretty much there.

wouldn't it be nice if the exclusive figure was an entirely new mold ONLY available through the club. Sort of like that Chevy Aveo figure.

    Repaints are shit

I guess you can't expect a company with hasbro's reputation of making repaints to do anything different

oh well. I was just hoping these figures would be special, but nope.
