Hell, I'm all for getting an XBox on the cheap. I don't play online games much, and the little online gaming I do is done on the PS3. I might hit up Kijiji or Craigslist in hopes of finding a cheap 360.
hmmm, wonder if this why I've seen no friends on XBL today, whereas there's normally at least 4-5 at any given time..... Honestly, I'm glad when I see steps being taken like this

When you connect to XBL, you consent to your console data being shared with Microsoft. Your xBox sends the servers all kinds of hidden system information that can be examined over time to determine if a console has been modified.
I'm pretty sure that this is not really anything new on Microsoft's part. They've been banning 360 consoles for a while now, and actually it was with Forza that I think they actually started locking accounts instead of just banning the console itself from live. With forza they actually suspended your account so you couldn't log onto live with a banned account, but it was easy enough to just make a new account apparently and use that. Before that though I'm pretty sure it was common that they just banned your system. I think the only reason this is "news" to the community is because MS decided to do a round of bannings because everyone and their dog is on live playing cod. They did the same when Halo 3 was released, and again before that with several other games. That's why if you're going to mod your system you have to think about the potential issues. Also, 360 data sidewayz is refering to is the dvd drive firmware I believe, since this is what is usually modified to make the 360 able to play copied games.
im happy with this once played halo1 over xbconnect years ago it was 4 of us on 1 console, vs 2 guys on another, they punished us in the 5 games we played they had autoheadshot [watched frags bounce off my friends heads a few times], they could shoot thru walls [got sniped thru the base in blood gulch, and needler fired rockets. yep rockets i dont see ppl whining when blizzard swings thier banhammer for d2lod, they clearly ran bots and used packet senders to dupe items, its justified you either follow the rules, or get banned
Is there any way to tell a systems modded besides trying to play a pirated game? My brother-in-law gave my nephew his old xbox 360, and I want to make sure that it's not going to get banned. I know that my nephew doesn't have pirated games, but you know, better safe than sorry

You know what, I'm getting tired of people like you, I never said I used hacks, I never lied either. I never fled this subforum, if you check my statistics you'll see I posted quite a bit throughout the video games forum. I said I glitched with my friends in private matches on GTA, or to force people out of the glitches, NO OTHER GAME. I've NEVER hacked my system, NEVER modded my system, NEVER modded my controllers, NEVER glitched willingly in any other game except GTA, in private matches, aka the party mode. I don't have an Xbox, my NEPHEW DOES as I've stated many times. That thing is his life, I need to make sure nothing is going to happen to it.
Yes I am, every single time I say something on any subject that has to do with video games people start dragging crap up that's been dead for months. I'm getting tired of it. I know that if I was to start joining the same games as half the people here I'd see that they glitch and mod the games, and not just in private matches. It's so irritating hearing every other week "Hey aren't you the guy that admitted to glitching (though I do the same thing but won't admit it)". Now back to the first question I asked: Is there any way to tell if your 360's meen modded? As I said my bro-in-law gave his old 360 to my nephew becasue he bought an elite and I want to make sure it's not modded before anything happens to it.
Well only problem there is that we really don't talk to each other, I guess my nephew could ask the next time he sees him but I was interested just incase.
Take the front plate cover off. If the microsoft sticker is cut or missing, then it's probably modded. you can see it here at above where the ring of light is. it's silver and about half an inch long.
