Let's try this. Stand in front of a mirror, and try to tell yourself that ROTF had an innovative, logical, well-written script.

If you can do it without flinching, there is something seriously wrong with your judgemental abilities. Let's face it, that movie had no plot and what little it had, was a mess.

And now Hasbro has cancelled Animated, which had a well-written plot full of surprises and character development (show me ANY character development in the 2007 and 2009 movies, please...) and is most likely giving reigns to these two untalented hacks to make a new cartoon? I guess the huge success of ROTF has shown Hasbro that the general public doesn't want quality. They want huge explosions and immature jokes. It's like Monty Python said waaay back: "The general public are idiots. They'd watch the Southampton bypass if we would show it as a serial." And that's what we will get.

They also wrote the critically acclaimed and widely celebrated 2009 Star Trek, mister.

This. A lot of people don't seem to grasp the simple concept that although writers come up with a screenplay, it has a tendency to get messed with by directors, producers, property-holders and studio bigwigs, so any problems people have with the end result isn't necessarily the fault of those who came up with the story in the first place.

Also this. Unless the series turns out to be the most amazing thing since sliced wombat, of course, in which case I'm going to have to buy earmuffs to drown out the sound of my wallet screaming in agony.

Fringe also gets a lot of critical acclaim as well so they are that rare writing team that jump back and forth between TV and movies.

They are also getting a lot of early buzz for Cowboys and Aliens since that will have Robert Downey Jr in it.

Yea I can't say that I was too happy with Orci and Kurtzman on the Transformers movies, but they have written enough stuff that I enjoy to respect them as writers who can hit the important parts to a good story and compelling characters even if they don't do that every single time.

I agree with what I highlighted

    This I agree with.

I don't mind Orci and Kurtzman since they're hanging around with a director who know how to handle a show's/movie's mythology (J.J Abrams). I just hope they score a home run with TF fans everywhere.

Them hitting a home run with Star Trek is one reason why I don't don't get upset with them over problems ROTF had (which had to do with lack of time, the strike and Bay). As a fictional entity, Star Trek is more important to me, and quite frankly, Star Trek is a more important and worthy franchise for entertainment purposes, a part of American culture, so the they did a good Star Trek movie impresses me quite a lot.

One thing writers have commented on is how difficult it is to write Star Trek given the 40-odd years of continuity. Orci and Kurtzman sidestepped that quite well, yet didn't actually "reboot" the old continuity out of existence, and acknowledged it in dialogue.

I respect Star Trek too :)  But, I thought that "Transformers" is also considered as an American heritage. I have to agree with myself that, I respect "Transformers" even more than I love Star Trek. I'm personally glad that Orci and Kurtzman handled both projects. Will miss them a lot in the 3rd movie.

I want either a return of G1 (Universe) or the return of Animated, the Best TF show since BW. Or maybe some sort of combination like Animated was, a show that takes a fresh start but has several easter eggs for fans. (the other thing its going to be on Discovery, which make me wonder if TF is going to be nonviolent and educational instead of the weapons fire and explosions)

I doubt most of the general public know it even originated in America. It's about robots, after-all, it must be Japanese.

I agree. Star Trek might not have been every last thing I could have wanted in a Star Trek film, but I was impressed how they could handle characters with so much history behind them into something even new people could pick up.

If my old school Trekkie mother loved the movie then they must have been doing something right for the old fans as well.

I think part of the problem is people don't have the same respect for Transformers. With Transformers the attitude is that nothing is sacred, and you can mess it around and hack it out anyway that suits you. See what you can throw together in a few weeks and we'll run with that. People expect robots and action and effects, but they don't really expect it to be good.

I think there's a lot of untapped potential for these movies. They need to realise they can do a much better job of it.

When they were promoting the 2007 movie in Japan, Bay and Josh Duhamel went around saying Transformers originated from Japan.

Doesn't Discovery have shows where we see animals get hunted, killed and eaten, plus where people blow shit up in the name of science?

Transformers will be right at home there.

Discovery has stuff like Mythbusters, Dirty Jobs, and Shark Week. But that is not the one that Hasbro has the deal with. They are taking over Discovery Kids that shows stuff for well kids.

People who praise Orci and Kurtzmann for Star Trek forget that there was a third writer on board, one who actually worked on Trek before...

Frankly I have not yet seen Fringe, so I cannot judge them on that.
