I heard the arms are more durable on the double balls and bird of desk YF-19's. Thanks for the pics Razerwire! Haven't seen that many pics of those 2 19's, maybe I'll pick up a double balls eventually and snap pics, I like the color scheme. Holding out for an Isamu version just in case Yamato makes a v2.

I'm starting to venture into the mighty world of Macross, got a few toys on order which I'm looking forward to receiving. What Macross Tv series is considered must-see viewing?
The only series I've seen is Macross Plus and I loved it, I preferred the subtitled episodes to the dubbed-movie though. What do I do next?

The original is probably the best place to start. It establishes a lot of the key themes that run through all of the shows.

Macross 7 is meant to be pretty decent, although you really don't want to watch that until after you watch the original.

Macross Zero is a prequel, it's short and I don't personally care much for its story although the dogfights are nice. Macross Frontier is the newest series out, and you probably want to watch that one last, as it carries on the wider storyline of the original and 7.

I would also actually watch them in chronological order. zero, macross, plus, frontier. and yes, I skipped seven, I really went there!

Oh yeah, I almost forgot that I did preventative maintenance on that part on both of my YF-19s. There's a thread on how to do this on MW.

I should look for that thread.

Mine doesn't seem to have the issue of the of stress at the nose of the jet at the breaking point though.

Is it irony if I replaced the arms of my 0S in fear of them breaking only to have them still crack? I just got finished performing emergency surgery to fix one arm and I believe I'll have to do the other one soon as well. Same exact condition as all the previous zero toys, cracked shoulder.

Good thing I kept the original arms around! Why must something so awesome be so cursed? :(

Apparently I've been living under a rock all this time, but Japan's biggest online hobby store, AmiAmi, has at last opened their doors to international orders! What does this mean for us? Incredible savings on Japanese goodies! HLJ is finally getting some stiff competition.

How about Brera's VF-27 for only 11,720 yen??

...or Max and Milia's VF-22s for 15,750 yen each?

The catch? Nothing that I can see. According to the FAQ, they only ship via EMS, but most big ticket Macross items are EMS-only from HLJ anyways. You can't cancel an order, which is a small price to pay for savings if you're absolutely sure you want that item. Payment is by PayPal only. Big deal, I only use PayPal with HLJ.

AmiAmi has been around for awhile, and they are known for their great service, discounts and exclusives. I just canceled my preorder for Brera's DX VF-27 and the DX Quarter with HLJ in favor of these guys. I'll let you all know my experience, but so far I saved about $100+.

I find that Overdrive and Angolz have had the best prices thus far. HLJ has become the BBTS of Japan.

I'm gonna take a look at AmiAmi.

Super Dimension Fortress Macross. The original. That should always be your first step. It's been released by both Animeigo (subbed only) and ADV (subbed/awful dub). Then the film adaptation, Do You Remember Love? (fansub), and Flashback 2012 (you really don't need subs, as it's a music video) are your next steps.

You've already seen Macross Plus, so the next path after the early stuff is Macross Zero (prequel) and Macross Frontier (the latest series in the franchise and the ultimate fan nod). I'm not the biggest fan of Zero (besides the gorgeous animation), but it does provide you with info that is touched upon later in Frontier.

Macross 7 is one of my dear favorites, but it is EXTREMELY polarizing and an "absolutely LOVE it" or "REALLY hate it" kind of thing. The show is much lighter in tone and involves a rock band flying their valkyries into battle and saving the universe through the power of their rawk. I would almost save it for last, to avoid it potentially turning you off from the franchise. Ha!

Hmmm. AmiAmi does have some good prices.

I just wish that they would provide shipping information before you have to commit to an order. Seems like you have to commit to the order before anything which I didn't want to do.

Bummer, but better loose now than broken after multiple transformations later right?

I managed to make it tight again after supergluing some tissue paper.

The tissue paper gives it a spongy resistance so that it's not too tight and yet manages to keep everything snug.

No, if the item's not available, you won't have to pay right away. I've used EX & have bought from amiami myself and the service has always been fantastic, just as the prices. You'll have to buy with EMS shipping since it's the only one available, but if you buy enough, it'll be plenty worth it.

Is there a way to find out how much shipping is on Amiami before committing to an order?

No. You can guesstimate that shipping via EMS will be about the same as HLJ's EMS quotes, though.
