Yeah, it's pretty terrible. The dark brown isn't so bad, but the bright brown is awful and completely clashes with the other brown, not to mention the eye-sore implementation of firetruck red. They should have stuck to bluish-grey, dark grey, black, and a few gold accents.
Wow, looks they actually put a legitimate amount of work into this mold. I might even consider getting it (not a big leader class fan) if I have the money.
CHECK THIS OUT: In this promotional pic of ROTF Starscream, he has these twin bayonets mounted on the missile launcher on his left (circled in red). In this pic, ROTF Leader class Starscream has these bayonets, which appear to be the same shape (also circled in red).
I want to like it, but the plastic color choices and absolutely horrid paint job really come close to ruining the thing. IF I get it, I'm going to have to repaint the fuck out of it. I'm glad I have the ROTF voyager, despite the smaller size, it has a much better deco, and as a result looks a lot better than this. seriously, what's with the lack of paint in the ROTF line? so much detail in this sculpt that just gets washed out by the plastic color.
Well whatayaknow, I thought it was just a dumb gimmick, but it's pretty cool if they copied it from the movie. I still think it looks kinda stupid, but it's nice to know they give that extra attention to detail.
Pretty cool. I might be picking this up, OR If it comes out before my birthday, consider it put on my B-day list.
I ABSOLUTELY AGREE! Most people making the "he's too fat" comments have likely never seen an F-22 before. Oh well. Anyways, this is... SOLD, BABY!! SOLD!!!
oh.......... why doesnt he have the boosters on his back.......... Ah well still a buy since starscream is the SHitz!!
Could have been better, it lacks the sleek underside of the voyager but is nowhere near as bad in fighter mode as the TF1 voyager. Nonetheless, best movie Starscream toy I've seen so far. I don't think it should be compared to a Masterpiece because if Haskaromy designed a Masterpiece it would obviously be much different/accurate; this one is a mass release in a mass market toyline. So for what it is, I think it looks great, though it's got it's shortcomings. I love how it has the bulk of the TF1 with a much more accurate alt mode, similar to the ROTF voyager though different in some areas. In any case, both ROTF Starscream's have much more preferable/accurate alt modes than the TF1 version. I wished the voyager robot mode had the bulk of the TF1 version, but so far the leader version has the best. Bulky, imposing, more detailed, and MENACING, just as it should be.
Lack of back boosters & nasty-looking finish to the plastic are big disappointments, but otherwise excellent. Bit of paintwork should sort him out for the most part. Will wait to see if Takara do anything different with this one..
Looks pretty good, although I've never liked the movie Starscream robot design. But as far as the colours go, I think the grey plastic looks OK, with the dark metallic grey and bronze colours complementing it. Although I think if you took away the tattoos, it would look a lot more bland. The tattoos kind of make the robot mode work. It's a shame that seemingly all the paint budget went on the tattoos, because it could have been used to bring out the moulded details, like on the head... and not in a way that totally ruins the look of the F-22 mode. Still, I'll have to blame the guy who redesigned Starscream's look for ROTF. It's not the toy's fault. Also, it appears that in order to "convert" the missile launcher back into a normal arm, you just remove the missile launcher? Seems a bit crap to me.. Although I'm not sure what I was expecting. There's probably no way you could do it without cheating somehow.
I'm dissapointed he doesn't have the fins on his rocket launcher.. Those looked really cool in the movie.
I want to know that myself. If it's just "I am Starscream" I shall be most disappointed. I confess that I am hoping for more than one thing. Animated Leaders had multiple phrases but the RotF ones don't. I suppose that could be put down to the fact that the toys were being made simultaneous to the film and the quotes from the toys might not have actually been in the film. My votes are for: * "Lord Megatron, I was so relieved to hear of your resurrection." * "Not to call you a coward, Master, but sometimes, cowards do survive..." * An aeroplane sound effect * A scream (assuming his mouth still opens as was shown in the prototype photos) On a similar note, a detachable arm feature wouldn't go amiss. Having Leader Megatron beat him with it would be a joy.
