Would Soundwave still be as popular without his minions?

Talk about zombie. I think if you take those away, it's like taking away a vital thing for a man. *wink* wink*

I loved that he was so loyal to Megatron.

I loved the fact that he was so intelligent but remained loyal.

I didn't like how the comics made him ambitious although I liked his stint as future Decepticon commander and the fact that he was willing to forego ego and treacherous ambition to team up with the Autobots in time of crisis as in Space Pirates and Time Wars.

It's the intelligence, unwavering loyalty and profesionalism in his personality that I like.

He was one of the cooler TF's in the Bay movies and I even liked his voice.

I had Actionmaster Soundwave as a kid and he had no tapes. I played with that version moreso than the original. Of course he did have Wingthing who never gets any love despite being a Targetmaster for Soundwave and therefore having a much cooler alt mode than a cassette.

i'm a massive soundwave fan so anything i say on the subject is tinted with the rose-tinted lenses of fanboism, but for me part of the appeal was that he had no personality, ergo no personality flaws, whilst his cassettes all had distinct personality traits - franzy/rumble were gob shites, laserbeak was a coward, ravage was essentially just a dumb animal.. etc.

Without his minions, he'll just be a decent fighter, but nothing that's memorable. It's what added to his popularity for these many years

I like Soundwave for his voice. His minions just added more to an already awesome character.

I love Soundwave, even without his minions. His voice, personality and alt-mode are the primary reasons why I love him.

He wouldn't be as popular, though he'd still be popular.

Just to add to this, I'd say a big reason why I prefer cartoon Soundwave over the comic version is that he is portrayed as the most robotic among the cast, with the vocoder voice and the dialogue he was given.

They portrayed Omega Supreme's personality in a similar vein in the cartoon. But while they added depth to Supreme's persona by explaining why he turned out that way, they never did the same for Soundwave - which I think adds to his appeal.

It also helps that, as one of the prominent Decepticons in the G1 show, Soundwave comes out looking a lot better than the other high-profile Decepticons in terms of performance and competency. They probably gave him too much in terms of what he can do.

Who's the red robot behind Rumble and the crocodile? Don't recognise either of those two.

Squawbox: He is a combiner cassett made up by Beastbox and Squawktalk.

The toys are more purple and light light green, but comic shows him more red.

a great cassett and awesome toys.
