when i say downhill i mean its not as good or the series or they series got worse not that the series was good in seasons 1and2. people say htis for multiple reasons. Reason#1 cause of rodimus prime and galvatron. people dont really like it because rodimus in some parts through out the season complained and whined saying he shouldn't be the leader and that he can lead the autobots or he wont be able to be the leader optimus prime was. Galvatron on the other hand was just insane and crazy who fires at his own men for no reason and screams and yells all the time. Thats 1 reason why people dont like the series as it was. Another reason was because optimus prime died. He was a great character i have to admit i missed him until he came back. Another reason is that they killed off pretty much all the season 1 and 2 characters. They only characters i saw in season 3 that were from 1 and 2 were jazz, bumblebee, cliffjumper, dinobots, perceptor, blaster, powerglide, cosmos, seaspray, warpath, and beachcomber, aerialbots, and protectabots. I think thats it but some people say they missed all those old autobots that they loved. Thise are the reasons i have heard why people said the series wasnt that good after the movie. Season 4 ont he other hand was 3 episodes long and all that eason was about was the introductory 2 the headmasters and targetmasters. Some people thought that concept was plain stupid. Thats their opinion but mine is different. I thought the series was great all the way through. Infact season3-4 had some of my favorite transformers in it. I didnt think the series went downhill at all. infact i like those rebirth episode from season 4. I like the 5 faces of darknees from season 3,dark awakening, star screams ghost, theif in the night, ghost in the machine, chaos, grimlocks new brain, the ultimate weapon, call of the primitives, and the return of optimus prime were sort of good. So who here agrees with me that the series was good all the way through and who here thought it went down hill after the movie.

The part that always irked me was :
Start of Movie...Decepticons firmly in control of cybertron...Unicron attacks cybertron...end of movie...not a decepticon in sight...autobots celebrating the end of the "war" and firmly in control of cybertron...and that never ever got explained logically...granted unicron destroyed a good area of cybertron's structure when he decided to stand atop the planet...and you see the decepticons attacking him...but come on...not one autobot is shown being killed by unicron and at the end of the movie...all the decepticons are magically gone away...

Yes unicron was the cause for them suffering losses...and galvatron gets tossed out unicron...but missing one leader does not equal the decepticons losing the planet to the autobots...

I don't think so, it changed from
"Season 1" Decepticons find energy source, attack, autobots arrive, megatron screams retreat.

Season 2 had more variety, but it turned towards "Lookie! we've combiners!", the movie does admittedly kill off a bit too many at once, but season 3 tried to take the approach of "New Leaders, fan backlash at Optimus dying, Rodimus feeling pressure to replace Optimus against a nutty and hard to predict enemy" season 4 was a bit of a cop out though. "Optimus is back, random bots&cons get upgraded with partner cybermen, city-formers fight, war over."

the thing that really bothers me in this series is that afer season 2 the rest of the series is like 20 years in2 the future. I dont like it 2 much when the next episode in2 a new season is like several years in2 the future.

I've always thought season three had a lot more in terms of story than the previous two seasons. And for that reason I quite like it. Downhill? No.

    ditto.

I never saw the need of a immortal robot to partner with a organic life form to become either it's head or weapon...umm..ok...

toys were neat...just the execution story line wise was meh...same with the comic...

Season 3 was when it finally started getting GOOD.

And seriously, you named yourself after Trypticon, he's a post-movie character...

and is "to" really so much harder to type than "2"? It's MUCH harder to read....

no i don't but the loss of Optimus prime threw things off and it was vastly different than season 2 and that threw some people off

I agree here. At that time, the producers didn't realize just how important Optimus was to the fans. Going into a new direction for season 3 was a good idea, but the outcries was louder, and I felt that they had to rewrite the script to bring Prime back.

I think Rodimus would be a great character to focus in on for a new series, he has good potential. But going back to the original question, no, G1 didn't go downhill after the movie

I liked season 3 as a kid. I thought the movie was amazing. And I thought it was brave for them to kill prime and run with it.

I think that the story telling got a lot better for season 3 (for the most part) but for me, the change in direction of the toys is what started to kill the Transformers line. At the time I prefered the realistic nature of the toys from seasons 1 & 2. Every day vehicles & objects that transformed into these great characters... Then suddenly most of them were killed off. Even when watching the original animated movie, I got bored once Starscream was killed. Thankfully I grew to like most of the new charcters but that took time.

I would say only the animation dropped after season 2, not the writing, if anything it only got better in some cases (I can't explain Carnage in C Minor.....).

Call of the Primitives, The Return of Optimus Prime, Web World, even the five faces of darkness. Great stories that are among the greatest episodes in TF History.

Season 3 had the scale thing really well since they weren't limited to Earth conflicts anymore, but at the same time you could see where corners had been cut from the movie in respects to new characters: Galvatron seemed to jump between his movie and Megatron voice, Blurr lost the effect when he moved, Wheelie's rhyming was really... strangely inconsistant and Wreck-Gar lost the effect on his voice as well. There were some really good eps in there though, like the ones with Starscream's ghost.

Season 4 is in my opinion pretty poor, simply because to me the way they did Headmasters and Targetmasters doesn't make a lick of sense. Apart from the headmasters now relying on their counterparts to be around from now until the end of time, I have no idea how sticking a human in your gun is supposed to make it work any better than it did before.

The Transector concept from Headmasters was a much better way to do it all, IMO.

Yes G1 when downhill after the movie. I still watched it then and still do now . I really like a few of the post movie characters very much, but it was never the same as the pre-movie days. It just wasn't.
