I think these movies will be fondly looked back on by today's kids...

I'm thinking the reverse really, I think most will look back 20 years from now with "what the hell was I thinking."

I like the Bayformers movies about as much as I like 'Godzilla'. I think both have about as much respect for their source material. They changed and discarded about as much as they could get away with, while retaining only the most basic themes.

As movies, they're pretty close. Undeniably lacklustre, but reasonably entertaining. Both are driven by top notch effects rather than compelling story. It's true that there's a whole other level of artistry that goes into effects and design and cinematography in these kind of films, but when you judge a film, you judge it as a cohesive whole, rather than the sum of its parts.

Well, Revenge of the Fallen is fun but has little plot. Not a memorable movie. And I liked them both.

Total bullshit. When there's a Transformers movie where Optimus runs from a dude with a handgun, eats a pile of fish, hides in the sewer, then FUCKING LAYS ONE HUNDERED BABIES EVEN THOUGH HE'S A DUDE! then you can say it's close to what was done with Godzilla.

But he got a point, Godzila was a nearly 95% change, while the only thing this Optimus got differentli really is his aggresivity in battle.

Not to mention the tone, Godzilla went from MONSTER VS. MONSTER FOR THE SAKE OF EARTH AND JAPANESE CHILDREN'S HOPE to "Humans try to prevent the world from getting destroyed by possibly the horniest dinosaur ever", Bay's Transformers is still the usual "ROBOTS IN DISGUISE, FIGHTNING FOR ENERGY, HUMANS GET INVOLVED, buyourtoys~~"

Really? 'Cos as someone with not much knowledge of Godzilla, I saw a bigass lizard stomping around and thought "Yup, looks like a Godzilla film." Ok, so it laid eggs. That's still less goofy than the kid the original Godzilla had.

so in transformers and revenge of the fallen i saw a bunch of cars turning into alien robots and vice versa and fighting with eachother. were i someone with little knowledge of the franchise i'd say "yup, looks like a transformers film"

i take your logic and apply it to SOMETHING ELSE! I AM UNSTOPPABLE!

No, he doesn't have a goddamn point and you are so far off base it's ridiculous. The hollywood Godzilla movie, eggs aside, is for all intents and purposes thematically very similar, nay identical, to the very first Godzilla movie where, guess what? He stomps the shit out of Tokyo. Replace Tokyo with New York. Bam. Job done. The monster vs monster shit came after.

Some people here can't see the woods for the trees and it's becoming maddening.

The juxtaposition of the laughter and the frown make me worry about the effect this forum has on your mental stability.

I'm just waiting for the day you come into this forum drunk, and just go crazy.

I suspect it will be amazing.

    Wait, what, are you serious?
    *wikipedia*
Then what... or why the fuck have "real-Godzillas" fans complained for nearly 12 years? Or is it one of those cases where the majority hates the original and prefers the slighty-younger redirection?

Godzilla fans are bitching that the new film wasn't like all the bullshit that came after the original. Personally, I wasn't that bothered by the absence of a giant moth and a robot built by aliens that was controlled by a Japanese girl getting pissed off. You know the real problem the Godzilla fans had? They'd come to enjoy the bullshit. When someone ignored it all, they got pissy.

And no, what I said doesn't apply to the Transformers movies. You know what Godzilla was about? A bigass lizard stomping around Tokyo and the efforts to stop him. Transformers has always had way more going for it. When you take Optimus Prime, someone noble with doubts about the war, a skilled warrior but reluctant to fight, and have him either bumbling around a back yard saying "My bad" like fucking Animated Bulkhead or ripping faces off whilst yelling "GIVE MY YOUR FACE!" then you have seriously fucking missed the point. Fuck you, Michael Bay. Fuck you with a chainsaw. Give me my hero back and piss off.

The Monster vs Monster stuff is really a different direction and, as is clearly evident in this thread alone, what people know him for. Not the metaphor for nuclear weapons testing that the first movie was.

The fact is calling the Hollywood movie disingenuous is a disservice to how close it is to the original source material regardless of your feelings on the final product.

And also, the 1998 Godzilla was just a bad movie.

    Same goes for ROTF.

I just don't care what came before. Judged by it's own merits, it's awful.
