get ready for the shit to be beaten outa you!

    :p

Anyway, I liked Iron Man too, but I felt it didn't have much action sequences. I just hope Iron Man 2 fixes that.

I think you're shifting the goalposts here somewhat, and that your new point is somewhat flawed.

To address my first claim: We started out discussing the fact nerds wanked themselves dry over Dark Knight. Now you're making points about studio execs. That seems to be a shift in the discussion.

Part the second: Why would studio execs feel the need to make a "real" TF movie? TDK and ROTF have proved to be pretty much equally sucessful. Why bother telling Bay what to do or getting a new director when the box office shows that letting him get on with blowing shit up will produce the same end result?

We're not talking about the present or immediate future here. Just a point in the not-too-distant future. You'll see how it all ties in together.

It's the whole hypothetical scenario where the TF movie franchise becomes the commercial disaster it already is critically. That's the sort of situation where they might decide to start over and try to win back some cred. Revitalise it, "like what was done with Batman". This is the kind of wet dream fantasy that comes up all the time on these boards.

I'm just saying it's possible to take all the wrong lessons from that example. It's like that 'make a wish and get it corrupted' thread.

But that would require the majority of movie-goers to actually care about artistic merit in movies, as opposed to wanting 2.5 hours of explosions and entertainment.

And the thing is, the vast majority will never give two craps about minor inconsistencies and continuity errors. They'll watch in the theatre, go home entertained, and consider buying the DVD six months later.

Exactly. This whole scenario revolves around millions upon millions of people suddenly developing some taste. On my list of worries sorted in descending order according to probability, that comes somewhere below "How will I cope if my list of top 20 famous women come round to my house and refuse to leave until they have satiated my every depraved whim?"

A lot of people went to see Godzilla, Batman and Robin, FF4 Rise of the Silver Surfer. Those films took in hundreds of millions of dollars. They made a profit. But it wasn't enough and the studios pulled the plug on sequels.

So I think it's perhaps a little more likely than all those women wanting Sledge.

Never mention Emmerich's Godzilla EVAR, especially near a die-hard Godzilla fan like myself lol.

True, the only reason why critics hated ROTF because it lacked artistic value. Look at the robot designs and some of the backdrops like the nemesis, thats art right there.

But no, they just put their fingers in their ears blah blah blah it's shit blah blah blah.
Continue to jerk off to casablanca critics, this is 21st century entertainment made for 21st century people.

Just so everyone knows I'm not bashing casablanca either, excellent film right there :D

You are hands down the funniest person on here, and not in the way you intended, either. I liked the movie too,but for Christ's sakes,it has dog humping jokes.
Also your stupid "21st century" line only works if you forget the fact that there are critically acclaimed films released every year.

Yeah, like Cloverfield, they liked that. I can't figure out how they like Blairwitchzilla, but didn't like RotF. Critics don't know dog turds from ambrosia.

How is being easily entertained a bad thing?

How dare they distract themselves from the bullshit in the world for a for hours watching something they enjoy.

I think everyone has/had some sort of nostalgia goggles when they were younger. Today's kids may look back on the series fondly, much like I do with some of the things I enjoyed when I was a kid.

    Where have you been?

It leads to low quality product being praised, creating a cycle where people's expectations lower, so less effort is put in, so people expect less, so... you get the idea.
My post was missing an abstract, non-existant, intangible part of a living being? Isn't that true of... well, everything?
