Rodimus?

After the missteps of the past year, I have to say that these images have gotten me interested.

Could IDW get Senior to at least do some covers.

Also, Roche and Su are still on tap, right?

I wish IDW would release a issue of just the designs.
I never felt like I really got to see some of EJ Su's designs.

I didn't like IDW Continuity until it developed to Devastation and All Hail.... I like it now... but those faces... ugh!!! I hope this is temporary..

We get enough of this "style" with all the movie crap. Enough stuff has been Michael Bayized.

 

Those designs look really bad. G1-y and Movie-y don't mix.

 

I like the designs a lot and I think this is the kind of aesthetic that can work best in the comics. That said while I love the bodies I can't help but agree with people on the fact the faces look really similar. I hope that as they practice with the style we'll see some more personality in the faces.

The artwork looks promising so we can at least focus on hoping for some better quality and more consistent writing.

 

I thought All Hail Megatron was an alternate universe story. It's actually canon now?

 

always has been in the IDW continuity.

and its canon anyway regardless since its officially been published.

 

That was my first thought too. At least with the simpler G1 faces of old some had the few face lines placed differently. Even if that was done with these new ones there's so many lines jostling for space would anyone ever notice? Now they all look to me like they've got little goatees too.

I think the faces looked bad on the first cover and in the first book they showed up in, but on that second cover with Rodimus, Prowl, Mirage and Red alert, they actually look a lot more refined.

The problem, or at least the problem I have, with the early version of this style is it obviously looks like them trying to shoehorn a more detailed "movie" style into a G1 style, and it just doesn't work. It just comes off looking awkward.
On the second cover though, it actually looks pretty good. It looks like it's starting to become a style of its own, rather then trying to be two other things.

 

Wow, if that Rodimus design is finalized and we actually see an alt-mode, I think I'll have inspiration for my next custom!  

 

So what is this; a continuation of the StormBringer, Infiltration, Escalation, Devastation, and All Hail Megatron series?

 

i hate the designs. if i wanted to pick up the movie comics i would. i think i will be getting off this train wreck now. i sure hope that they bring back their talented artists (loves casey coller, guido guidi, and nick roche!!). not that figeroa isn't, but i hate the direction he went in...

 

Well I'll just come out and say I love the designs. Don got rid of those "teeth" (I appreciated the effort to try and pull the Knight Rider bar off with 'em though), so now I've got 0 complaints.

Just a head's up, all my Decepticons' lower halves will either be crab legs or unicycles. and all will have claws that features more claws on the tips

 

I've learned by now not to trust my first impression with these things. So I'll give it a chance.
