He neither wrote the script nor directed either of them, which is what Sledge's been saying Miller is seemingly incapable of doing properly.

His "hand" in those movies was in generating the original concept material and in an advisory role, not in actively writing or directing the film. If anything, he actively opposed making Sin City into a movie until Robert Rodriguez convinced him.

So would they have been more successfull, or less successfull without his involvement? His being Co-Director of 300 mind you.

And 1 way that Rodriguez convinced Miller was by staying as true as possible to the source material- more so actually. The movie was damn near a panel-by-panel moving picture of the comic.

As much as I'm not a fan of the writing and directing of the TF movies, I'll sleep well at night knowing there will never be a fan-written movie. Ever.

I don't mind Furman's work, but even in new situations it's the same regurgitated plot and characters over and over again.

Animated was nothing but retread G1 characters with cliche storylines and personalities. You want G1, buy the DVDs and '86 movie and watch it to your heart's content.

Taking into account that the scripts for both films are heavily based upon the scripts that he wrote for his comics, I'm gonna say that your "minimal involvement claim" is shaky at best.

Although I'm probably gonna get flamed for saying this, Animated was far superior to the G1 cartoon. It had far more sophisticated writing and character development, as well as season-long story arcs (all of which can't really be said for G1). Also, the G1 movie, as entertaining and nostalgic as it is for me, was blatantly nothing more than a ploy to discontinue the old line of toys and introduce a new line. Story was obviously an afterthought.

Don't get me wrong, I respect the hell out of G1. It introduced all of our favorite characters, and laid the groundwork for all of the following cartoons and toylines. But, to say that Animated, which is clearly more advanced when it comes to character and story, is nothing more than a cliche rehash of G1 is pushing it quite a bit.

Sorry for the double-post, by the way.

How do season-long story arcs count as a superior feature?

Perhaps they're not a superior feature, but they're evidence of a superior writing staff. They certainly require a lot more thought than the "Megatron's scheme of the week" format that was so prevalent in G1, and '80s Saturday morning cartoons in general.

Or maybe it's indicative of a writer's inability to resolve a storyline within the length of an episode.

Considering that there were, in fact, several one-shot episodes in Animated, I highly doubt that...

You're entitled to your opinions. Just don't confuse them for facts.

IMO season-long story arcs disguised behind VILLAIN OF THE WEEK, are good to keep you looking for something else other than JEEZ I WONDER WHOSA CRAZY PLAN MEGATRON GONNA COME UP WITH THIS WEEK.

I rather have a long story arc, than some one episode one shot. Makes the series overall alot more interesting.

I suppose so... Although, it baffles me how anyone could possibly believe that G1 had better writing than any of the series that followed it. I figured that it was commonly believed that nearly all Saturday morning '80s cartoons based on advertising toys had cheesy and simple stories in them...

For the sake of argument, can you elaborate on which characters in Animated you felt were simple retreads of their G1 selves? Because I'm honestly at a loss to think of a single one who didn't have some major twist or altered role to differentiate them.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to claim that Animated is above criticism, or even that your specific criticisms are wrong: I just don't understand this particular one.

EDIT: Apart from Grimlock, I'll give you that one. :p

It can do. On the other hand, I can't stand Babylon 5.

I enjoy G1 episodes more than anything that has followed. Oh, btw: go watch Dark Awakening and tell me how cheesy and simple you find it. :)

Anyone who thinks long story arcs are automatically better than one-shots, irrespective of quality, has obviously never watched Lost.

Also, I'm a big X-Files fan (another show noted for very very long story arcs), and I have to say that my favourite episodes were always the self-contained one-shots interspersed throughout each series.

I never said that, nor do I believe that. But, when all you give me is nothing but one-shots, it starts becoming kind of old. I find finales to be a lot more satisfying when it answers any burning questions that had been set-up by prior story arcs. Of course, that's just me.

I'm fine with that. It's your opinion. And Dark Awakening was a rather serious episode (although I thought "Zombie Optimus" was a pretty dumb idea), but the series, as a whole, was rather cheesy. It wasn't bad or anything, just cheesy. That's my opinion.

    Also, sorry for the double-post.

I wouldn't want the FANDOM to write a transformers movie for the simple fact that they aren't professionials.

I mean, we get threads alost every other week complaining about how Michael Bay sucks, how TF3 needs a new creative team even though nothing has been released concerning the movie, how every time Megan Fox says something, there is a 3 page thread saying she's a dumb bitch...Really..

Then you have to write according to what the studio heads and the director wants. Of course that depends on who you are working for...

I'm not sure how much they'd be able to help.
