well, I interpreted the whole "give me your face" line this way:

Optimus took out the face of the fallen (which served as a symbol of the Decepticons*) to show the fallen's true nature (and the decepticons) as a big wimp, proving that the evil decepticons are really weak, and they don't stand a chance against the good autobots.

But this is all just a theory of mine.

*: Source is ROTF official novel & prequel comics more or less

It's one thing to criticize Bay and the movies he makes, but it is another when we just start throwing around "People who watch Bay movies are the unwashed masses!" type of thing. Intelligent people can still enjoy crappy culture products, and still retain their intelligence.

Certainly, I'll agree that ROTF Prime could get a little surprisingly brutal for me. But, I would say that the first movie Prime didn't totally jibe with what I've come to expect in a Prime as well--he seemed a little too much focused on sacrifice (of self and others). For instance, he seemed too ready to write Bumblebee off as a sacrifice/casualty of war when he got captured. Also, when the shot down helicopters were falling around Optimus in the final battle scene, I would have expected any other Optimus to try to help them out, but this Optimus didn't even flinch.

Indeed, this movieverse Optimus is a way more complex character than your cookie-cutter good guy leader.

Yeah, that's something I've never understood. I feel I'm fairly smart,I mean I'm not boasting or anything,I'm not Stephen Hawking, but I'm certainly not a knuckle dragger. Does that mean I MUST spend every waking second in an opera house?

I'll say it all again; I have zero trouble in reading into the scene of The Fallen's death and saying that because The Fallen's face or head (or however they seem to think it should work out) resembles the symbol that became the crest of the Decepticons, a breed of Transformer that has sent the Cybertronians into a war that's brought them nearly into extinction and in the process caused other lifeforms (of which we know how Prime sees - even this movie one) death & destruction, that he sees this face & the first Decepticon it belongs to and wants to strip this enemy of it physically with a symbolic lining in the action.

In the Bayverse continuity the war has taken its toll on this particular Prime, obviously. Within the supposed multiverse this particular Optimus retains his "Freedom is the right of all sentient beings"-type ideals, but he's been pushed time & time again to the point that another Prime line, "The Decepticons must be stopped, no matter the cost" has become more real than ever. Where as Optimus Primes of other continuities would fight, if need be kill, but usually seek a peaceful solution, or allow an enemy to live, et cetera, this one is different. He has no Matrix, has only come into the Bayformers universe brand of it just recently, there's something different there, within him. When he kills Demolisher one can easily imagine him picturing all the humans that just died before this Con was stopped. He knows he's the big gun, which is why he shows up when the battle is over the top tough. Bayformers Optimus has been, per the story, alive for eons, holds a title of Prime which means something - the extent to which we have no idea, he's been shown to have compassion and concern for humans to the point which some use to say its the reason Megatron wiped the floor with him in the first film, and yet he's been shown to possess the big guns of asskickedry which were fully displayed in film two and only failed him when shanked from behind, and now he's been temporarily bonded with the power of an ancient Decepticon (though that seems done) as well as had that interaction with the Matrix directly (and who knows that it may have bestowed upon him physically & mentally in that moment).

We know a load about general truths when it comes to any Optimus Prime, but remember this one is still pretty new. He doesn't possess a Matrix, yet he is a Prime, the last one even. We've only glimpsed at his past in battle thanks to comics, and been given just hints at his life ruling along side Megatron in peace for a time. The fact remains, there's a lot about this awesomely Cullen voiced Optimus we know next to nothing about.

    You know what's funny?

I've been a fan of Transformers since '96 when Beast Wars came out (being born in '88, I never got to see G1 when it was airing) but it got me interested in G1, and I'm a huge fan of that too.

Yet I don't go bitching and moaning when they try to make Optimus a little different in the movies.

I mean really, what's the problem? Really? This might be my favorite ill-legitimate complaint about the movies, maybe tied with "Duurrr.... tWiNz R raCIst!11!11one!!" and "DeVaStater's BAWLZ!!!"

Or is the fact that you grew up with G1 and you take it as some sort of insult to your childhood? There's no reason to get so worked up over nothing, people.

Thank you for exemplifying what the two worst things about this sub-forum...

-People who hate the movie because it isn't like a previous era.
-People who are convinced that people who don't like the movie only don't like because it isn't like a previous era.

"Give me your face" would be "da me tu cara". ""Enfrentame ahora" would be "face me now".

So basically, Bay's Prime is more of an anti-hero, instead of a hero. Like the Punisher.

Bad ass doesnt make the character better. If all you need is bad ass this or that then why not make every character bad ass then they all can be BAD ASS then you will have the most BAD ASS movie ever .

    Jesus get a clue.

Thats like saying take all the people you are freinds with and loved ones and replace them with BAD ASS clones and see how your life feels at that point. It would be like being caught in a mountain dew commercial perpetually where everything is extreme and BAD ASS. There is nothing special about being bad ass it just makes you a generic Hollywood portrayal with no reason to care about you or what you do.

Im sorry the portrayal of prime is a piss poor one as he has no Moral Code no ethics. That is everything that made prime great to this point. As for finding the one issue of prime depicted executing megs that is an aboration more so than the rule.

I friggin hate the term Bad Ass

for 1 it is usually only used to describe characters that well have no character and big guns.

2 It does not make a character better just more shallow like a lot of the viewing public.

3 not everything in the world has to be friggin sado masochistic butcher of all things in supposedly cool ways.

How much of your soul and your fandom do you have flush down the toilet before you get out of denial about this movie. It sucked. Hell Prime in the first movie showed more remorse when Megs died. Its fairly obvious they had taken the complaints about optimus being a puss in the first one and ran to far with it. Plus i think Bay shows in the movie how he thinks we should treat POW's if only we could replace demolishor with Baybot.

Its just sickening when you can just go add more weapons to a character or a killers lust and everyone goes ohhh coolllllll. So no character is special or cool in their own way.

For God's sake. Why have you convinced yourself that everyone who likes the movie is in denial? Is it inconceivable to you that perhaps some people aren't bothered by some of the problems in the movie?

What makes you think your opinion is above everyone elses?

partly because of the rationalizing and excuses and made up story lines that go with every defense of the movie i have seen.

My personal favorite is the one this thread spawned over give me your face. Yes because during battle prime realized hey the fallens face is the decepticon symbol if I rip it off that will show them.

Lets be honest about the give me your face part it was typical Bay hollywood machismo crap. The look how bad ass i am thing.

If you can t see how people are making up a story around the story to justify it then we obviously wont agree. Take away the cgi and TF label and this movie fails on so many levels as a pure action flick
