I think critics(and people who hate him in general as well) see Bay as a master of spectacle, but lacks the care for acting or characterization that other dircetors might. In layman's terms, all show, no substance. While I do agree with this, I in no way hate Bay, it's not like he's personally approached and beat the crap out of me.

Eh, I don't hate him by any means, I just don't think he's a "great" director. he makes movies better then I could, I'm sure. But as far as being in the top of his genre, he's not.

I'd take him over Uwe Boll or Paul W.S. Andersen any day of the week.

According to my friend, Uwe Boll one said "I am the only fucking genius in this entire industry". The guy is a self centred douche and a bad film-maker.

I don't know who Paul W.S Anderson is, though. :p

And yet here I am, a well-educated, successful business professional who manages the financial affairs of hundreds of clients, married to a stunning woman, two beautiful children, a paid-for house and two paid-for cars. HOWEVER, my enjoyment of Michael Bay movies automatically makes me a non-functional inbred mouth-breathing moron. Got it. :thumb

Do you hold Michael Bay films on the same level as say, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Blade Runner, The Godfather.....or do you simply enjoy them...do you know the difference in his movies and good movies, or are they all the same to you?

Thanks for the resume, though. Want to give me your credit score, too?

Michael Bay Hatred spreads far beyond Transformer fandom, its been existent since the man started to direct movies. His great director given the genre he tends to delve into, and a better "action director" than most that aren't high profile like Michael Mann or Ridley Scott (though ironically, he counted among those ranks). The absolute hatred most people tend to spew out on the internet about him is rather nonsensical; I could see someone acting like that if the man did something to physicaly abuse the complainer, but ragging on the man because you don't like his movies, the fact that they make money, and other people have no shame in enjoying them is insane.

The same could be said for Paul W.S. Anderson, who is both a great writer and director for the genre he tends to stay in and I'm betting, something else as well once he gets gone with sci-fi and action/adventure movies. Hating this guy because he did something different with the Resident Evil Franchise, no more than CAPCOM has done itself, is also insane as, like Final Fantasy (to an extent), Resident Evil never really followed a sinlgular group of character's storyline like most tend to precieve it; Its stories were sporodic and obviously took forever to get back to characters like "Leon", "Chris", and "Jill".

    Oh, you tease.

His movies, while entertaining and usually crowd-drawing, are very shallow and heavy on cheese. The man himself is also very arrogant. I see many people 'round these parts want to believe that bitter G1ers are the only people in the world with a problem with the guy but the idea that he's all flash, zero substance and a giant jerkass has been a common opinion for a while. Right? Wrong? Whatever, up to the individual.

He's a one-trick pony who probably has never watched a movie or ever read a book in his life. He sells snake oil to the people who will guzzle it. He makes himself and others rich, but he leaves no lasting impression. He's a vacuum of funding that could go towards more deserving projects.

Oh my god, I liked RotF, so that means I'll accept anything hollywood gives me because I'm a shallow idiot!

I like RotF, but I stilll see it's problems. I also like The Dark Knight, but i still have problems with that, too.

Just because I liked some of Bay's movies doesn't mean I'll fall for the cinematic bucket of puke that the film industry will pump out.

It's based on your likes and dislikes, not your IQ level.

I think you get my point just fine; your post was exceptionally rude and condescending. The movies you just mentioned are all in my personal collection, and I consider them cinematic masterpieces. Nothing Michael Bay has done (or likely ever will) is going to be held in that kind of regard. But is it at least possible that people don't need that depth ALL the time? Can I go to the movies and enjoy some explosions and potty humor without falling short of your expectations of a marginally intelligent individual?

C'mon man... read this and tell me it's the right way to speak to people you don't even know face to face.

...Or he could really just be a mediocre director with a good sense of visual styles, but inconsistent with his directing style, favors pretty shallow things over depth and a crude sense of humor? I enjoyed the movies, but come on.

Look, I like a lot of dumb movies, and I acknowledge them for what they are. My favorite movie of all time is "Army of Darkness", for chrissakes.

But this site, any time anyone says anything about RotF being a terribly made film aimed at the lowest common denominator, why you're suddenly a complete asshole! How dare you not enjoy this, the next step in cinema?

Notice I try to keep it somewhat humorous...I haven't yet said "You're stupid if you like RotF"...but I like it when people AT LEAST give me basis for comparison. If you enjoy the film for what it is, so be it. But do you see my point about those that see NO DIFFERENCE? Every movie they see is awesome. There's no difference. Splodey splodey babes and robots, or Batman racing down the highway. NO DIFFERENCE TO THEM. THAT'S disheartening.

Anyway...you can actually type, and hold a conversation, and you didn't resort to particularly nasty tactics, so you, I can apologize to, because you actually have it together. So mark your calenders, Mospeada has bowed and apologized.

Remember, I do it because I love.

No, but they say that he is a dictator that thinks that he can slave around anyone who works on his films. Some of them even called him certain names that I don't even dare to put on the boards.
