I don't like him. but i can't say anything about the folks who bought him.

I am pissed more at the erratic decisions Hasbro makes concerning size classes.
    Supreme Devs isn't SO bad.
But the legends Devs...they coulda splurged just a little on Scout classed figs???

And to make Mixmaster and Demolishor one size class, then Rampage another....it is all confusing to me.

i wonder how hard it coulda been to release 1-2 Constructicons of a decent size per wave and over the 6 months till Christmas allow us to drop 12-22 bucks per fig fpr the right size classes.

that's just my peeve about the Devs situation. i don't care who buys the Supreme Devs (make room for other TF's!)

He may be only slightly taller than a Leader class, but he's VERY wide and VERY deep. He's very substantial in all three dimensions. Say what you will about other aspects of the toy, but as an owner of it, I can definitely say he's got $100 worth of plastic in him.

I just saw this figure today for the first time at retail, and I was not impressed at all. Height wise it didnt look very big, and certainly not worth more than leader Prime and Jetfire combined. In my mind those 2 leader class figures are more of a true Transformers combiner than this very "zord" like Devastator. I know you have a better perspective on this figure than I do. For me, I wasnt impressed at first sight. If/when this figure goes on clearance for at least 60 + 75% off I'll pick it up because of the size of this figure - it will look good on display. I am highly anticipating the release of the legends class version. That version just looks alot more "fun" to me.

The big ratcheting joints are actually so the toy can deal with its own (considerable) weight. At a guess, more simple transformations on Supreme class figures are a way to deal with potential breakage - the larger, heavier object would make a bigger splash if dropped than a small, light one, so simplifiying transformations makes the toy less likely to break into a billion pieces when it is dropped.

Unicron and Primus were excellent Supreme class toys.

Let me just echo this. I picked him up at WM tonight, and a friend was with me. I handed him the box to hold while I went to get a cart, and he was surprised at just how heavy he was. "This thing is a freakin' monster, man!"

He's so deep, in fact, that not only is he not assembled in the box, but two pieces are left off off his components because they'd make the box too deep to fit multiple pieces on a standard shelf. You actually have to snap on Mixmaster's front grill and Scavenger's shovel, because when they're in place, Devy is a good 11" deep (from back to knees) even with his arms down. He's about 14" wide and 12" tall, making him completely massive. He dwarfs the G1 Metroplex that I've got him next to right now, and he weighs more than a baby. Heck, maybe more than a toddler . . .

You CANNOT go by "just height" for comparison. That's just as useless as going by "just width". Animated Leader Bulkhead was barely taller than Animated Deluxe Bumblebee, but no one complained that they were the same size. :)

funnily enough people did, there was a lot of complaining about bulkheads height (or lack of). I'm not sure why some were suggesting he should have been a delux because in terms of plastic mass hes around the same as any other voyager, of course.

the complainers werent seeing that at even just an inch taller he'd have possibly doubled in mass making him way out of voyager price size.

same goes here for devvy, those who are suggesting hes not tall enough, make him a couple of inches taller and again you have a substantial mass increase which would push him into what, possibly the 8-9lb range!

He is a beast. He is taking almost my wife's whole dresser top to display him properly. Sure, he isn't as tall as portrayed in the movie. What figures are? Scale is something we as TF collectors have to kick out the window, it's just not going to happen. I personally feel he is worth the money. He isn't perfect, paint apps....where? However, for what he is I think he is great. My 2 year old loves him. "Cars Ma!!!" (He calls me "Ma")

His scale is actually pretty much perfect with many of the Legends class figures. And you can fit quite a few in his giant Vortex Grinder.

Keep in mind for $100 you could also get Leader Prime and Jetfire(and even a deluxe) who are both 10' have plenty of articulation, can combine, have plenty of gimmicks and can transform. While Devs who is 11' and yes he is very wide and big but for a $100 he best as hell be, can only transform into vehicles, has very few paint apps(yes the same could probably be said for Prime and Jetfire too) ton of gimmicks, and not enough articulation to even stand on all four, oh and he doesn't even have Overload so it's not even screen accurate. You tell me the better deal. Personally I really wish Hasbro just made this a big Robot Replica Devs with gimmicks and articualtion, the fact they even bothered making the useless vehicle modes for the Supreme Devs, ruins it.

I must say hasbro need to work harder for my money; i still don't understand why not a robot/truck= big monster; why people still buying this; they don't give us the best devastator they can, it's like they where thinking " they buy wathever we give them, don't worry"; in this size they could make a masterpiece. Hope hasbro give me a great christmas present whit a new, redesing and real supreme devastator.

I was impressed with his size and presence (and potential fun factor) when I saw him in stores. I was tempted to buy him, but can't justify $100, personally speaking.

Lack of detailing and paint apps are not an issue for me as I paint an/or kitbash almost every TF I get.

I think you all have every right to not like this toy and not buy it and wish it had individual robot modes.
    BUT...
I think it is VERY poor form to bash other TF fans if they *do* like it and *do* buy it.

Well, while my opinion hasn't changed, you have to keep in mind there are folks, fellow fans, casual movie going audience members, and kids that loved Devastator onscreen and want to have him, individual robot modes of the vehicles or not. It's a very large Transformer toy and that will attract money from certain people every time. Then, yes, there's collector's that have to have a MISB just to have it, or to try and scalp it online for rediculous prices.

Hell, I know for a fact my parents are planning on nabbing one for my son's birthday coming up. He's going to freak.

A more accurate Devastator would be awesome, but before you just decide that this version is because of 'Hasbro being lazy', do take into account the following factors:

1.The limited time between approved concept art and final toy. Leader Prime had similar problems with the first movie, there wasn't enough time for them to sit back and make it super-accurate, not while the movie model was still being revisioned.

    2. The fact that the robot Transformer toys transform in a much different (and more complex) way than the oldschool combiners (that were pretty much blocks transforming into blocks that turn into one big block)..not downtalking the old stuff, LOVE IT, but engineering has come a long way, and having a spindly character as, say, Mixmaster, transform into a robot, a cement mixer truck AND the head of Devastator takes alot more time and skill to work out.

    3. Combiner limitations. This is overlooked by alot of people: big toys are heavy, make big impacts on the floor beneath them when they fall. Big toys are thus more prone to breaking, and every toy needs to be designed in such a way that they won't break on the slightest impact (you don't want small parts to come off and kids choke on them, etc.).
This is only made worse because Devastator is a combiner, so they also have to make sure that the combined parts are tight as a whole toy.

So it's hardly Has/Tak being lazy, designing stuff is alot more intricate than one would imagine. That doesn't mean that the current product can't be improved though, I give you that. Paint apps in the ROTF line are VERY lackluster, that's one thing. And maybe in the future, now that the design is final and they have a long time to think of a good way to do him justice, they will release a better version.

The question is: do Has/Tak believe it is profitable to waste time and resources on making a new version over movie Devastator, that obviously takes ALOT, and is only featured in a movie that the people will have forgotten about soon? Probably not!

But if you just don't like that thing then yeah, I wouldn't spend 100 smackaroonis on it either, then. :)

That's exactly the problema; we the buyers have right to demand a better things for our money especially in this crisis times; there's a thousands of examples out there of companys doing wrong things like video games and broke; i could eat a month in my country with $100.00 (in my country devastator cost $150.00) and i ask my self how hasbro can convince me to buy this toy? so i feel disapointed cause i would espend that much money only if the figure worth it; contrary to leader class; both megatron an prime cost less than devastator and yet the value would be more with the time.

somebody says ahhh it's for kids, ok i'll give that but not for $100 please.

The only real problem limb would be mixmaster, but they always could make extra clip on pieces. The others imao would be fairly east to form a limb it's just gotta take some tweaking.
