I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I don't visit the boards too much, so sorry if I'm beating a dead horse.

But in the movie universe, it seems like the Decepticons goal is to carry on their race. They are motivated by the natural instinct of survival of their kind. I mean, yea, the Fallen just seems to enjoy being a dick, but besides him they seem to have the Cybertronian lineage in mind to explain their intentions.

Or maybe they are just all dicks.

Evil is a point of view.

In the eyes of the Decepticons, the Autobots are evil.  

 

I wouldn't go as far as to say that. They just don't agree with the autobots point of view, and subsequently like to kill them.

Well they say that but I think they are evil in their quest for power from the allspark they caused the destruction of their planet. If they had not started the whole war their race would not be near extinction. Also that whole excuse is the only thing they can say to motivate the autobots not to fight. As Jetfire stated if they were not stopped they would destroy the Universe.

 

I think its better off not discussing this because I don't think the writers even put this much thought into it, and if they didn't, then how can we?

Lol. This comming from the guy who lit the fire? Anyhow I think it is an interesting topic just as long as no one makes it go over board.

 

The Decepticons are just fighting for survival and are not evil.

 

This makes me think about the conversation between Anakin and Obi Wan in EPIII on Mustafar. Obi Wan basically tells Anakin that the Sith are evil, and Anakin says that in his point of view the Jedi are evil.

Evil is relative to which side you affiliate with, IMO.

Nah. They're just misunderstood.

 

If I ever wanted a leader, it would be Megatron. Following Optimus Prime would get you killed in the real world. Decepticons are trying to survive since Cybertron is dying while Optimus Prime and the Autobots are trying to be everybodys friends while their race is dying with lack of Energon.

Same Principle with Humans. When Oil runs out what will you do? Survival of the fittest. Do you really want Optimus Prime as the leader when oil runs out? Or Megatron?

 

Decepticons are the real hereos.

 

Yes, they're evil. They take whatever they want at the expense of others--whether what they want is to continue the species or to have fun smashing up random cars (with people in them) in Shanghai. You'll find that selfishness without consideration for others is at the root of pretty much every example of what is "evil". Murder, theft, rape, deceit, all of it.

 

When you look at the horrible things humans have done over our relatively short history you do have to wonder if the Decepticons might not have some point in wanting to get rid of or to control such a dangerous species. If we would commit genocide on each other and wreck havoc on our own ecosystem then as an alien species you might have to worry what would happen if we ever did expand beyond our own planet.

 

Wait, what? They were already committing genocide against each other before they had any real concept of our history.

It's as simple as "Protect" and "Destroy." The Autobots try to protect others, and the Decepticons try to destroy others. We qualify those actions by assigning "good" and "evil" to it.
