There's only been 1 HP movie that broke $300m, and that was the first one. So this new one will have to be far and away the highest grossing one of the series to compete with ROTF. I think that when it's all said and done, ROTF will be the biggest moneymaker of the year, but HP6 is really going to put a dent in ROTF's earnings the next couple of weeks, probably keeping it from getting to $400m.

Which blows, because that would have been a great middle finger to the critics.

I think the box office take is already large enough to make a point. Doesn't particularly make the critics wrong, however, which has been discussed to death already.

Am I concerned? Not in the slightest. ROTF has already earned record levels of money, and that's just the movie. There are the TF toys themselves, and if the last movie line is any indication they will sell like hotcakes, raking even MORE profit. HP6 may do well at the box office (I personaly thought the six book was when the series started to get out of its groove), but like any typical movie toy it's toys probably will not do anywhere close as well as ROTF toys.

Actually, my friend does, he wants to go see it. I, however, have reason on my side in deciding it will be a box office bust, namely in that it should be called "Wanna-be X-men". Seriously, they could have at least blown somebody up at the end of the trailer!

Not a chance. I know a few big harry potter fans that seen it at midnight and says it was the worst one of all the movies. I dont know what the rest of the consensus says but if it really is the worst then word of mouth will help this bomb. lol

Aw man, that would be so awesome.

I'm not going to bother with Harry Potter. I don't really care how much money it makes, either. I saw ROTF, I enjoyed it, I moved on.

That's tricky one I think. Perhaps you'd have to go visit a Potter forum!

The problem with the books post number four (The Goblet of Fire) is that they become less self contained and focus more on the wizarding war and Harry's upcoming final stand-off with Voldemort.

There's a lot to be enjoyed in this, but you suddenly become very aware that you're reading material that is both part of a larger story arc and pushing towards a conclusion, rather than being entertaining in and of itself.

I could be wrong but my general impression was that Half Blood Prince was the weakest book in the series. (At the very least its my least favorite)

Anyway, as a fan of both franchises, I really couldn't care less which one does better. If they do fine, good for them.

I think the biggest complaint I have heard was the final books are so much longer and written for an older audience that they have had to cut/rewrite more aspects of the plot to make them work in Movie form. Whole sub-plots are removed due to time.

Basically the same thing said when any book is made into a movie.

The difference between HP1 and 2 vs 5 and 6 was the first two books were like 200 pages long, in large print written for a 4th grader. The recent books are 1000 pages long in small print written for older crowds.

The movie is already 2 hours 33 minutes, It is hard to fit a whole book in a single movie. (which is why the final HP book is going to be 2 movies)

So the complains about the 'Movie' are more focused at the book than anything and not the actual movie. Most people who are simply Movie followers who have not read the book won't even know what these book transitions people are talking about.

I am not sure why Tf people are so defensive that another movie might do good. I bet a ton of people who liked ROTF are also going to see and like HP6.

I am a Die Hard fan of HP and I will probably see the movie.
As for how much money it pulls in, I'm saying 120-400million

Hey, I don't get it either, I found it completely freaking ******ed that people on this board were frothing at the mouth over the Dark Knight box office take too. It was ridiculous.

    Did it make X dollars?

    Yes.

Then you get your sequel, what else is there to care about?

I've heard that Hollywood intends to make movies that aren't Transformers sequels. Should I be worried?

30 seconds on BOM will show you that it's unlikely HP will pass RotF domestically, but that it almost certainly will internationally.
