I thought the old G2 prime mold would suit a movie repaint perfectly so i bought a re-issue laser optimus prime and went to work. I used tamiya acrylic flat blue, red, and yellow for the alt mode body. Custom designed the flames and air brushed them on. I then lacquered everything with future floor polish and automotive lacquer. The robot mode was totally taken apart and sprayed with enamel silver, shaded with acrylic grey and finished with tamiya clear. The trailer was painted the same way as the cab and body. I also chromed alot of parts with alclad 2 lacquer as you can see. Hope you enjoy it! Thanks for looking.
I like it...I think the only thing I would have done differently would be to paint the chest around the windows red instead of blue.
i can see you put alot of time into this imean u have a lot of good details in it and i like it wait i love it!!!!!!!!!!!
The movie Prime colors make a striking contrast with the chrome and the robot mode looks pretty nice as well. Top job!
this is awesome. I really don't like that mold (not your fault) cause it's like a brick with the lack of poseability, but the colors you've added really bring it to life.
Works really well, successful mix of the old and new - good work! Extra props for the trailer, came out very well Slightly off-topic, but I'd love to see this mould given as decent a paintjob, and really worked over with balljoints, articulated hands, rubber tyres and the like - so much potential in it.
This is one of my Favorite molds actually. not too keen on the reversed flames on this though. I think there's too much yellow. anyways, it a good paint job, the trailer makes an interesting twist as well. I do agree if this mold was reworked it would be much better. If ALL G1 toys had at least this much articulated joints I would have them all.
Thank you! Thanks mate glad you like it. Glad it shines through as i did spend a lot of time on this one. Thanks for the great comment! Many thanks! I had thought about that myself but i prefered it this way. Just a personal preferance really as it looks good either way i think. Thanks for the comment! Thanks! The trailer was a pain in the arse at times but it was worth it in the end. Yeah thats a cool idea! I doubt id be interested enough to do it myself but someone definately should! Thankly dankly! Reversed flames? Im sorry but i dont understand what you mean. Thanks for the comment though! BTW new pics added!
this one is cool. one comment though, you could have used a deeper/darker shade of colors, the colors are a little bright for me i guess. excellent work though. good luck on the sales!
Excellent work on this, Drpee. I've been waiting to see some of your work and it was worth the wait. Very nice and clean paint apps and I was wondering when someone would come along and do this to this mold (I still have my Car Robots Black Convoy that I love too much to do this to, so it's great seeing someone else paint up the original Laser Prime mold so I can get a feel for it in TFTM colors). Again, great job on this--can't wait to see more from you, bro.
God lord. I thought this was the first movie LDR Prime modified in look more G2ish. I am thoroughly impressed.
Ahhh, the nostalgia. This mold WAS Optimus Prime for me when I was a kid, at least when it came to toys. I love seeing it brought back to life
