I've been looking for an excuse to redo my earlier design of Movie Sunstreaker, so I might as well participate in the contest. I'll start off by putting up a simple ballpoint pen sketch I did at work yesterday. This Sunny will be a new version of my previous Movie Sunstreaker I did back in March 2008. I'll be posting WIP pics later when I make some more progress.
Looks great. I must admit I'm getting nervous seeing some of the artists and great drawings that are going to be entered! Competition is going to be nothing but stiff by the looks of it. He's very top heavy to my eyes, it makes him look kind of burly, for a robot.
My intention is to make him a brawler, sort of a hand-to-hand expert. That's also why I'm removing the cannon I originally gave him. He needs to be able to pack a punch without being particularly huge - after all, his alt mode is about the same size as Bumblebee's. Also his smaller size will allow him to move fast when needed, but mainly he'll be the fighter in the front lines.
Really great job on the head! this doesn't need to win and be redone by Josh Nizzi in order to go in the movie. the design is looking like it will be pretty much perfect when you finish it. Butt-kicking idea on the hand to hand brawler too.
Updated with a rear view of the robot mode. Still sketching, but the general shape is starting to come together.
Loving it so far, and loving the choice of Lambo. One thing though I know you are doing your own thing but if you would incorporate the wheel feet idea that would a nice touch to go with Sideswipe. Now I am not saying to strictly make the feet wheels but maybe so he could have the option of using them. I dunno it's your project and it looks great, can't wait to see more!
Added a profile view of the head and cleaned up the lines. I'll try the vehicle mode next, but we'll see how that turns out 8D I see your point, but changing the design that radically at this point wouldn't fit the concept I had in mind for him. He's fast on wheels when he needs to be, but in robot mode I'm using the wheels to increase his upper body mass to better fit the idea of a brawler. Besides, I think it'd be a more interesting take on the classic Twins to not make them clones, just with different colors *cough*skidsandmudflap*cough* Whether they'd be twins or not in the movie universe, I can see Sideswipe and Sunstreaker making hell of a good team as they are.
Looks great. I never got to see everyone's designs from the first movie. Is he still going to be Sideswipe's brother? Just curious.
The roles for Autobot twins are already taken in the movie universe, and Sides and Sunny both strike me as bots who would rather work alone. Neither of them are really twin material. But still I can imagine a situation where the two would be forced to work together and in which they'd totally kick ass. A combination of speed and strength
Looks like he's coming along very well. I'd better get my butt in gear if I want to compete in this contest.
