But wait, this seems unfair.

Almost all the movie designs that I have seen - including Josh Nizzi's of Long Haul! - have vehicle mode photos included in their image - for scale and to show how they are creating the robot mode. In addition many include photoshop parts stuck into the painted design. The leaked Movie Mixmaster and Demolisher -- to name a few. Why can't we use similar techniques to communicate our design vision??

To me it seems like we should be able to use an existing photograph of an alt mode as a comparison directly on the design image - and to be able to use photoshopped parts - just like Josh Nizzi and other TF Movie artists have done.

I mean the point is not to create an existing car or plane design - it's to adapt that existing design into a cool bot. The only way to do that is to show a photo of that vehicle - so you know how we are "transforming" it. Right??? Otherwise how will you judge what we are transforming? This should not be a vehicle drawing contest. Am I right? Please reconsider this aspect of your rules. I think we should aspire to the same freedom and techniques the pros on both TF movies had.

 

And this knocks out how many people? Some of us can't draw like Josh. Some of us can't draw at all.

 

If my guy is supposed to be a Clone, can we recolour official art of the guy he's cloned from? Please?

 

Well I have 3d model I had been working on for months now for just this occasion. Will I have to draw him out again or could I submit that anytime soon?

Interesting. I've been looking for an excuse to revise my Sunstreaker anyway, now I'll just have to find the time to sit down and do it. Hope we'll see more contests like this from TFW2005 in the future!

 

Is there any regional restrictions? Like, the contest is for US citizens only? The rules say any board member but I just want to be sure.

I just saved a bunch of images of cars for the Sunticons! I will start drawing it today.

 

It's a pity that "movie Lugnut" which someone posted in the fan art gallery a while back is ineligible for the contest as that would make one freaking cool Decepticon.

 

If I knew how to draw stellar, movie-verse Transformers, I would so participate in this contest.
