His movie face looks nothing like his movie toy's face in robot mode, though interestingly, the toy does have have the movie face in satellite mode. What did you think about that? I thought it was actually a pretty cool face. I think the face design used on the robot mode of his toy and packaging art were overall cooler, but I still liked it. His toy face design is much more distinctive though, and for that I liked it much better. The red visor, silver mask, long blue horns--just awesome and unique. I was really surprised by the differing design since I had stayed mostly spoiler-free. It's just interesting that Hasbro seemed to come up with their own separate face design for everyone's favorite communications expert.
I actually dug the look that they gave him in the movie. As far as the design, it took alot of visual clues from the original. And as far has the figure, I appreciate that Hasbro also gave him the "Robot mode" head too which is obviously even closer to the original.
I think the overall design for Soundwave in the movie was the best out of ALL the designs since the first movie. I love how they played out his character and his involvement in everything in the movie. They did him justice and I think he will play a major role in the next movie. Hopefully Shockwave will make his appearance as well. but on the topic. I think the toy and the movie design were great. no complaints at all. AND i think the "dr. claw" voice was way better than if it had been vocoded. my humble opinion.
I agree the design was pretty cool. . . . but he definitely needed the vocoded voice. Just isnt soundwave without that voice.
He still had the crown thing on his head in the movie, so it wasn't that different than the toy head.
Agreed. Just as subtlety as Luxoflux used it in the video game, would've been perfect, without it being overbearing.
true maybe it would have made a significant difference but we must keep in mind that we aren't going back to G1 with none of these films as far as the bots are concerned. We are witnessing a whole new generation of Transformers. Im overall happy with everything about soundwave. I wish I can find some concept art on him or maybe a CGI Render.
I'm not sure. I guess when I looked at the toy I assumed he had a mask of some sort, then in the movie I couldn't really tell. Part of his lower face moved and other parts didn't. Other then that I didn't notice any difference between the two. Also, the Dr. Claw voice was extremely creepy(which I think suits him in that situation), but I wish he had had the vocoded voice. Creepy or not, I just wanted to hear Soundwave.
Soundwave was one of the biggest surprises of the movie. The first time I saw his face, I dug it. Surprisingly, the writers got his character, dare I say it, right. And the voice was just the icing on the cake.
I loved the face in the movie. He had the red lense, and even had eyes. I thought it was cool looking. Now I don't think they could put that in the toy, but it still makes a nice colection piece.
We are not asking to go back to G1 totally. I can accept he cant be a tape recorder. I dig his new look and role. Just keep the same kick ass voice but maybe a little deeper, or raspy.
I wonder if the Transformers Art Book has anything on Soundwave... does any one know if the book is out yet?
Nope not yet. As of now, we still don't know whether or not if it has been postponed or outright canceled.
I tried contacting Ben Procter again... he responded to my comments on his great artwork and thanked me but didn't respond to my request for any additional artwork from Movie I or Revenge of the Fallen. If the book is canceled it will be extremely difficult to get any art work. I would love to see the design of Soundwave's head on paper.
From hearing that he was not going to be on earth or transform, i was kind of bummed. but i have now seen the movie twice, and soundwave was awesome! i like the time he was in, voice was great, design, everything about him. he is the "new barricade," cause he did not participate in the final battle and is should be alive.
exactly, he should have a bigger more important role in the next film... BUT... i would not be surprised if they just leave him out of the next movie for no reason....
