I just saw it, and here's my points.

At first I was bitter when I heard that they didn't vocode Welker for Soundwave, but then when I saw what he actually looked like on screen and heard the Dr. Claw voice come out I stopped caring and thought it was bad ass. Especially happy since he had more than one line.

Tony Todd was a great choice as The Fallen.

    Poor Grindor. Poor Ravage. :(

Adler's Starscream is much better than the last film and his scenes with Megs were pretty good. Rooftop: Megs: "That worked out well."

During the Sam interrogation/torture, I swore it was Agent Smith in giant robot form. Weaving just.. used that Smith tone.

Was.. confused to see Devastator form with all his parts, while Long Haul/Mixmaster/Scrapper/etc. were searching for Sam & Mikaela. Disappointed with his death too.

I didn't go in expecting a Godfather-esque movie, I went in excited to see Transformers and overall I liked it.

I agree, I could definately hear Hugo Weaving this time (not that that's a bad thing) but since Weaving has an unnerving creepy voice anyway, it works. Screamer's voice was much better as well, but sort of hard to understand if you didn't already know what he was saying. I personally liked Rampage's voice and one line, like grated english, which shows that the Decepticons really don't care too much for Earth's ways or language. God, I love this movie. :D

I saw the movie yesterday. I did enjoy it and the Twins, I liked quite a bit !

Sam's character development & his connection to the Autobots grew nicely here.

Still, I have one very big crit on this movie which forces me to rank it lower than TF1 :

    First half features action scenes which are Baydynamic as dynamic should be. I list these dynamic scenes;

    -the Sideswipe intro scene
-Prime's skydive & landing towards Demolisher
-the battle in the old plant to free Sam
    -the forest fight.

However, the latter 2 scenes in that list already indicated an issue which wouldn't leave the movie anymore after that mid section:

The lack of dynamically using transformations and the respective specialist skills which come with that altmode.

So, how come ? I thought...

Well, in this movie we see a lot of transportation of human allies by TF's:
    - Sam & friends
    - footsoldiers
...and in this movie we see a lot of transportation of TF's by human allies' airplanes.

This results in action scenes which don't employ the potential dynamic transformation action.

TF's transport human allies - human allies open doors & step out or hop off trunk - then TF transforms while standing still, basically.

    And while the Decepticons don't transport humans...they didn't really put that transforming ability to use either, as they did in the first movie ;
    - Bonecrusher's scene on the freeway
    - Blackout's flights & landings in Mission City
    - Starscream's actions there as well ; transforming sliding into ground action & the great airbattle.
    - Ironhide driving then transforming & evasive leap from incoming missiles
    - Jazz' sliding transformation then leaping onto Brawl
    - Megatron transforming to attack Prime

All those scenes have in common that the TF's use their transformation to very good onscreen/visually dynamic use. I was watching some Macross DYRL these days again too, and I couldn't help but think how those share that dynamic sense of transformations in action scenes.

That, is what I felt was severly lacking in ROTF.

    The desert setting in the last part certainly doesn't help here either : the Autobots' altmode rendered about useless in the sand with all these footsoldiers around them ; they basically turned into static artillery units ;

So, Bay reverts back to rely a lot on explosions in the last part of the movie again (and long range bombings/railgun shot), while he showed he can certainly handle graciously fluid transformation action scenes in TF1 and in the first half of this film.

It felt like a sort of WW1 tactics of static infantry + static artillery while I was hoping to see more dynamic moving action, a kind of Blitzkrieg style tactic.

If the Autobots would have had Breakaway there would have been a lot of potential for a really nice dynamic dogfight.
Maybe less cars and at least one more Warpath tank or Hound jeep ? Both would be way more useful in a desertfight.
It kind of requires thinking like a sportsteam coach ; looking at player positions then putting the appropiate skilled player to that specific position ; and imo, that could have been done better in ROTF, considering the variety of range of altmodes.

So, while the action was indeed very intense and explosive it was imo, missing that fluid & versatile transformation aspect in the battle 'choreography'. So, a lot of people may have been charmed by more character development, which is good.... but that didn't really make up for the loss of dynamic transformation action scenes.

speaking of the transformation scenes, I liked the way they did optimus' transformation in the N.E.S.T base because you could tell that he was being causious of his small surroundings, and how they showed the robot to vehical transformation of bumblebee.

I liked that they finally showed a shot of Prime going from bot to truck mode.

Before I say anything I want everyone to understand that this is MY opinion and that I respect everyone elses'.I'm not saying anyone is right or wrong.......This is just how I feel about the movie.

    The pros for me:

The military characters were better in this than the first

Ravage was awsome....died kinda lame to me

The fight scenes were a lot better than the first

Prime actually puttin down some ass whoop for a change

"SEEING" the new bot's(minus the twins)

    The cons:

Alice was a waste of time

    The twins......just didn't like them

The fact that we see(and that was almost rare) the new bots but don't get to know them the way I was hoping for.And the way Jolt just kept magically appearing here and there.

All the clones on the Cons was a little disappointing.

The Fallen went out SUPER LAME

    Devastator went out SUPER LAME

It felt to me that the ending sequence was was rushed and they once again started killing off characters just to end the movie. We finally get to see Fallen fight and he goes out almost as fast as Bonecrusher in the first or Sideways at the beginning.Same with Devs. This bugged me more then anything else.......well this and the clones.

On the clones..........I understand that you don't want to add every character and you also need some characters to die but that doesn't mean they have to be clones or all look exactly the same...what ever the story is with that.It would have been cool to see Thundercracker or Skywarp show up in the final fight in the background fighting and Starscream barking orders to them. And one more thing.........just because there's a fight doesn't mean you always have kill someone or that all the "BACKGROUND CHARACTERS" have to die.I'm tired of seeing the same damn Bot's and Con's getting all the screen time.

I feel this movie was rushed...

i jus saw the movie and i think it was a rushed bcuz it lacked depth and leaves alot of room for explanations as to why certain things didn't happen or went missing. for example devs being formed while longhaul, rampage, and mixmaster went on fight? wtf? also i didn't like the fact that sideswipe didn't have more dialogue what a waste of a cool character! soundwave not having the vocoded voice over was a big let down even tho he sounds like dr claw it goes with the his movie theme being darker and hidden but altogether its a great move not quiet what i thought i would be but still alright in my book...i have other gripes about it but most of you have alreayd pointed it out and mentioned many many times...damnit bay make a movie with more dialogue plz...

Hey, my thoughts on the movie.

Way to short. felt rushed. I would have liked to see more of the transformers as well as them transforming. We never even saw some of them transform. Not to mention even seeing the alt mode. Some of them we only saw for like a minute then the dissapear. *Jolt* The should have really flused out the characters more. The only character i grew more love for was ironhide and of course optimus. I loved the scene were ironhide goes into his fit of rage because he has some guns pionted at him.

I really enjoyed the movie for what it was though. I would have liked to see devastator actually doing something other then sucking balls. It all seemed very rushed.

The battles were really short plus the only battles i really liked were the shanghai battle and the forest battle. Every thing else was cool but seemed rushed.

Overall i loved the movie and i think bay is the perfect director for these types of movies, but he needs to put more focus on a small group of transformers instead of spreading the focus to 5 million transformers who only appear for a minutes.

I think they tried to fit too much story in it.

The first movie didnt really have enough, it basically dragged on until they found the glasses, and by the time they found the glasses they had already found the allspark (or frenzy did). Then the movie was practically over.

But this movie basically doubled that, in only a little extra time.

It was a nice thought, and it comes out okay..but yeah..

    Still a decent movie.

That was pretty cool to see how quickly he got pissed.
Loved it when he told them he would tear them apart.

Something tells me he still isn't a hundred percent convinced about humans.

Okay, I loved it but just to help me figure out something, how did the Fallen get on the ship? I only got a couple of the prequel issues but all of a sudden seeing him just chillin on the ship took me off guard.

you know, thinking about the "timeline" of the sequel....

so 2 years have passed. Somehow sam's boned Mikaela, yet somehow hasn't said "I love you" ...I don't know about you guys, but typically isn't 2 years a little long to not say that?

In addition, 2 years and sam's just going to college, which makes him and mikaela high school juniors in TFTM? are they really supposed to be 15/16 years old?

He was getting his first car...so sure, that sounds right. And 25 year olds playing 15 year olds is pretty standard in TV/movies.

    My 2 cents:

    Pros:
    1. The fight scenes.
    2. Optimus Prime being a badass warrior.
    3. Sam's parents - especially his mom. I hope they are in the third movie.
    4. Alice. I know I'm in the minority here. But you can put Isabele Lucas on the screen as much as you like in my opinion. Man was she hot. Same goes for Mikela/Megan Fox.
    5. Ravage was pretty sweet.
    6. The guy from The Office. Rainn Wilson?
    7. Sideswipe.
    8. Bumblebee using various songs to express his feeling - especially when Alice was riding shotgun.

    Cons:
    1. Too many robots. I'd rather they focused on a core of 20 (10 each side) instead of the 46+ that they had.
    2. I hated seeing individual constructicons onscreen when they were supposed to be merged with Devestator. I realize that there is an explanation out there but it still sucks.
    3. I also didn't like seeing Transformers in this movie that were supposedly killed in the first movie.
    4. Leo (or whatever his name is - Sam's roomate).
    5. The spacebridge/teleporting idea. I know it harkens back to G1 but I didn't like it here.
    6. Sam's parents just showing up in Egypt. I know they were kidnapped with the intent to use them as bait, but it wasn't explained that well in the movie.
    7. The hatchlings.
    8. The sexual/potty humor was a bit overboard.

    Surprising things:
    1. I didn't hate the twins as much as i thought I would. And please, THEY ARE NOT RACIST. That is silly.
    2. I didn't hate Wheelie as much as I thought I would.
    3. I liked Simmons this time and his monologue: "One man. Alone. Forgotten/Abandoned by his country..."

    Overall:

I liked the first movie better. However, the fact that I want to see this movie again coupled with the fact that many in the SOLD OUT audience laughed and clapped during the movie counts for something.

I hope Bay directs #3. However, I hope we get new writers. No offense to the old/current ones - they seem to be nice guys who are good to the Transfan community.

I don't know, Orci and Kurtzman are supposed to be long-time fans. But what did they mean by that? "Long-time fan" as in I watched a few episodes of G1 when I was little and remember it when I'm 20-something? Or "long-time fan" as in I can name at least five series and know their basic plot?

I'm surprised that Orci and Kurtzman are doing such a dramatically different take on the Transformers. If I recall, The Fallen was only in The War Within Part 2 (and maybe another mini-series) and isn't a big character all Transformers fans can recognize like Soundwave or Sideswipe. I don't know...I'm just very confused at how they approach Star Trek and how they almost seemed to not care about Transformers.

One major thing I forgot to say in my original review post in this thread...not as much shaky cam. I forgot all about that. It was actually watchable! It was awesome not to have to dart my head around to figure out what was going on.
