I can see word of mouth and even repeat views being a problem for ROTF. My wife, kids and I saw the first movie a few times in the theaters because we enjoyed it. I don't mean to sound like a prude but compared to Transformers 1 there was way more swearing and other stupid stuff that makes it hard for me to take my 7-year old son to see. He's seen PG-13 movies before but ROTF just crossed the line with one of the Car Car Binks characters calling someone a pussy, Simmons showing his bare ass, etc.

One of the things that kills me is that Bay is quoted as saying that he inserted Car Car Binks into the movie for the kids. Really? Two illiterate, ghetto-bot, gold buck toothed, racial stereotypes that swear up a storm in the movie were for the kids?

Anyways, aside from not taking my son to see this, I just didn't get the same enjoyment out of this as I did the first one. The action scenes with Optimus and Bumblebee fighting were completely kickass but there was even less development of the Autobots new or old outside of Car Car Binks. It just blows my mind that Sideswipe and the Arcees didn't get more screentime and I don't even remember seeing Jolt. The replication of Decepticons to save money was also disappointing.

Overall, I went in expecting a big dumb action-filled Bay-ified Transformers movie and I got a big dumb action filled Bay-ified Transformers movies. I just can't say I enjoyed it as much as the first one. I'm not sure my wife did either because she hasn't said anything about going to see it again and again and again like she did with the first one.

I did, as I took my girlfriend since she was not going to go to the Midnite showing, and for someone who has no interest in Transformers short of being something I like and am in to, she said she thoroughly enjoyed the movie, infantile humor and Twins, included.

Youre in the minority bud. I already saw it twice and wouldve been 3 times had the theater not screwed up.

The great thing about this thread are people speaking with such determined authority about how they know how horrible this movie will perform. I look forward to the threads where these same people justify how they were still technically correct and how the extreme success is really a sign of failure when we know the counts on sunday.

It will be like all the people who to this day contend TF1 failed at the box office and was a flop.

I have a bad feeling that like the Bay fan boys they will use the opening weekend numbers to somehow justify making a third film. Instead of learning from mistakes in the second film the third film will be even worse as Bay thinks he can do no wrong.

Maybe after the third film they will put the film franchise to rest for a while but I have a feeling we are going to have to wait 3 years for the third film before all of this is over and done with.

It cracks me up when people cite the Transformers past fictions when trying to bash the movie. Outside of the 86 movie and the occasional storyline in the UK and Marvel comic lines...most of TF fiction has been straight up advertising for new toys, and was cheesy fun at most.
If you go into a movie based on a toy line about giant robots expecting Citizen Kane, you are a highly deluded individual. The Dark Knight was able to pull off a more emotional and engrossing story line, because the source material has, from the beginning (with a campy break in the '60's,) been very dark and tied to human failings and conflict, hence people identified with the characters much easier. Giant alien robots don't have that luxury.
I love movies, always have, and I truly enjoyed myself at this one. I think most folks that are going after the plot holes need to do a reality check before going to summer blockbuster movies. Most are a 2 hour escape from reality for fun, which is why I think the movie will do well. Word of mouth will be " I had a lot of fun!"
Occasionally we get a really entertaining movie that has all the good stuff, plus a seamless story (Dark Knight), but Spider-Man 3 did huge box office and it suffered from the same problems that TF2 does (too many characters, and disjointed storytelling.) It made money because it was entertaining, and so is Revenge of the Fallen.
I hope most of you enjoy the movie as much as I did. I am going to see it again soon!

I don't understand what people were expecting to see out of this movie. Characterization of robots? The casual viewers in the audience don't want a backstory on Optimus Prime and Megatron, they want to see robots kicking the shit out of each other, and they want the "funny stuff from the first movie", such as Mojo the dog, Sam's parents, etc., to keep their role of being silly and light-hearted ... and they are.

My theater got SO MANY FUCKING LAUGHS at any scene involving Sam's mom. To the point you couldn't hear what was being said. Wheelie humping Megan Fox's leg? Theater busted up. The testicles on Devastator? Another laughing-fest. And the twins? As much as everyone is claiming "OMG STEREOTYPE!" ... stereotype to what? What you see on television and rap videos? I don't know kids like that ... but damn, that shit sells (obviously, look at the TV, and rap videos) ... so why not use it?

Hasbro just wants to sell toys. As long as that happens, it'll be all good.

to answer that Bumblebee thing about him not talking was because in the movie prequel comics, his voicebox got damaged again while trying to protect some NEST agents from Starscream.

most people haven't read the prequel comics before going in to the movie, and likely won't look them up. though the IDW iPhone app thing is going well, maybe the knowledge will be spread. i have to admit explaining the majority of the background in comics is a bit of a copout to the general movie-going public, but whatever.

OMG! Iz not geewhun so movee is tuh suckorz! god G1 was great but yet they were fighting rectangles. THis movie has no ties to the past series except for names, an artifact, and humans. People need to realize this movie or even the first one have no continuity to the g1 or any transformers series. movie was awesome. Toilet humor was not needed, twins were funny, alice was based off the old g1 pretenders, ravage was still a cat, starscream and megatron actually bicker, fallen was overrated as a villain, jetconvoy/jetprime was awesome and well made, jolt did something in the movie than just look cool, arcee actually spoke and was in the movie, still didnt explain how she is a she, sam died and went to autobot heaven. its a frickin movie and people need to stop comparing it to G1.

    yeah I'm done.

Haven't seen this mentioned, but the "controversy" surrounding the Twins is probably going to do more to help the movie than hurt it. I think more people are going to want to see what the big deal is (adding to the revenue) rather than avoid the movie because of it.

Mikela asks BB if he's still having trouble with his voice and Sam tells Mikela that he's "playing it up."
