Either you didn't see the movie, or don't know Megatron from Cy-Kill.
the voice of Soundwave was not G1 Negatron.

It was more of Dr. Claw from Inspector Gadget.

I will be watching this movie again later this week.
it was more fun and a keeper for the DVD shelf when it comes out.
I can't go into details- will save that for after the second screening.

One comment i have is that this may not be a kid-friendly flick.
Language, some brutal scenes and the general theme was (IMO) a bit much for little snots running in and wanting a cartoon experience.

But did Bay ever out-bay himself.
    bravo.

I just came out of the first IMAX showing here in Houston. I thought there were too many transformers running around.. so character development occurred only on a very select few newbie bots. I also felt the CGI of the Autobots were too shiny during the first half of the film (especially during night scenes). Another thing that baffled me was how there were duplicates of the same constructicons appearing in two places at once (one being Devastator in combined form at the pyramid while at the same time the separate constructions were fighting in the field). Overall, I still feel the original 1986 flick outdoes both the new TF movies. I will try catching this again but at a regular non-IMAX theatre next time to see if I missed anything. Overall it was enjoyable, but it barely met my expectations (which wasn't set high).

I have the same issues with it as I did for the first one. Mind numbingly dumb humor is still in full force, and the robots - while more plentiful, still feel like throw-aways a lot of the time. Devastator does next to nothing, feels very wasted. Also felt like overall there really wasn't...much that happened. Can still enjoy it, but I don't think it's anything more than "ok." Gave it 5/10 at IMDB

The biggest thing from earlier reviews I agree with is the dialogue being hard to understand. I couldn't make out a single word Optimus said to Megatron during their forest fight. I heard Cullen's tone of voice...and random syllables. No words :(  I am questioning if it was my theater though, or perhaps my positioning in it, as much of the audio was pretty bad - very mono sounding, with little of the dialogue ever standing out above anything else. Still, with so many of the reviews mentioning the same, makes me think maybe that really is just the movie's sound.

where would he go. he shot giant decepticons out of a small hole in his body. he was too damn big to put on earth, from a financial standpoint. also, large things like him don't typically survive atmospheric re-entry.

Definitely worse than TF1. Apparently Bay's claim of "more robots" meant bigger fights, not bigger roles.

Hate to say this, but at this moment I feel like I'd rather wait 7 years for a reboot than 3 for a sequel.

Postscript: I actually kind of liked how they did Soundwave. This portrayal made him seem kind of more mysterious/sinister.

Their alt modes are typically dictated by their mass. what was he supposed to reformat into?

I'm okay with Soundwave (my fav character) being up in space managing communications and coordinating. It's exactly what he's suppose to do, and just like in the Gen 1 stuff, he does his job well.

EDIT: Soundwave could reformat into one of those airborne laser 747's :)

Wouldn't be surprised though if he could actually do atmospheric entry in his satallite mode.

Saw the 12:01 Imax here in Louisville. Enjoyed it very much, despite the imperfections. I even came out of it thinking the twins aren't too bad, and Mudflap is a pretty badass little dude in his own right.

Just got back from seeing it in Oklahoma City. I won free popcorn for answering who the VA for Prime was, kinda silly.

I didnt like any of the nonTransformers stuff. The humor was offputting.

All of those lines were awesome, but the best still has to be:

    "Punk-ass Decepticon."
    -Ironhide

Also I seem to be the only one who noticed Mikaela shouting "fucking do something" when Sam temporarily died.

Devastator is made up of way more then 6 construction vehicles. I counted 8 from what I could see. The screen is massive, and there's no rewind button lol I could only look at one part of the screen at a time, so its hard to say for sure :p

But his head is defintly made up of more then the cement truck, and his arms are more then the crane, and front end loader, as well.

Alright, my much-abbreviated thoughts, in case anyone cares in this HYOOOGE thread:

    Stand-out moments:
    -The beginning battle scene
-Action in general was incredibly off-the-hook
-The CGI. Really, need I say more?
-Skids and Mudflap were surprisingly HILARIOUS. Skids is so totally MC Paddington, Vangelus must be proud.
-Megatron and Starscream had considerably more character. And Megatron was definitely more Hugo-Weavingy
-Any scene with Soundwave and/or Ravage
-Shia didn't "No no no no" too much
-Romantic/etc stuff kept to a minimum
-Sam's and Prime's "death" scenes were very well-done
    -Jetfire was great
    -BONECRUSHER HATES DEATH
    -Scorponok's out-of-nowhere moment

    Downsides/low moments:
-The Fallen really comes out of nowhere. What happened to the sarcophagus (this is more of an issue with the non-movie fiction, but still)?
-Sam's destiny was to... save Prime after.... Prime saved him? That makes no sense.
-No explanation for why Blackout is back, or alternatively why Grindor looks exactly like Blackout. (I didn't mind the whole "duplicate Constructicons" thing, since it looks more like the case with the toys-- we've got individual Constructicons, and then just vehicles that combine to form Devastator.)
-Devastator went down WAY too easily
-I can see the "bad pacing" argument from one of the first official reviews of the movie, but I'm of the opposite opinion as that author. He felt the second half went by too slow, I felt the first half went by too fast. It shoulda been drawn out a bit more.
-The Fallen's hacking worldwide communications and his subsequent demands seemed way too "TV Villain of the Episode"-ish
-I know this is a PG-13 movie, but there was WAY too much stuff in here that was simply not appropriate for kids of any sort. Skids/Mudflap's unabashed cursing, Alice's advances, the many many sex allusions/jokes... whereas for the first movie, the only thing I really would've said, "kids, don't watch" would have been the masturbation joke. This is really a bit much for a movie with such a toy focus.

Overall, I can't really say whether I liked this more than the first one or not. I was expecting to solidly, but it ended up really close. I have to disagree with those who say it's "more of the same". If I didn't know any better, I would've sworn this was a completely different creative team compared to the first movie. It felt very, very different. It surpassed the original in some ways, and fell short in some others. Whether that makes it a better/worse movie OVERALL I'm going to have decide after more subsequent viewings. But hey, either way it's either my favorite movie of all time or my 2nd-favorite, and those aren't bad places to be. I recommend it-- as long as you don't bring your kids.

As for what the large group I went with thought, all of them thought it was better than the first except for 2 people, and 1 of those thought it was as good as the first. So at least from my experience it seems the audience likey a lot.

    EDIT:
Oh yeah. That was freaking awesome-- up there with "Fate rarely calls upon us at a moment of our choosing" for the line of the movie.

Are the entry mode vehicles used by the Autobots to initially land on Earth all different sizes? I thought they were the same. If those are the same and they can reformat into cars of varying size, I don't see why Soundwave couldn't have found a smaller alt mode.

Plus, consider that Frenzy's big ass head, formerly part of a body that was a large boom box - was able to reformat into a tiny, thin cell phone.

Think of it as an homage to the many times Devastator got his butt handed to him in G1. Hell the first time he appears Prime zaps him and he falls apart.

No, and until ILM / Dreamworks releases a list of character models (so we can get an idea how many protoforms etc) there won't be a correct list.

What I remember from seeing it last night, some of this might be wrong though:

Sideways (chopped in half by Sideswipe)
Demolishor (rammed into the ground and shot in the head by Prime)
Kitchenbots (all shot and blown up by Bumblebee)
Unnamed Constructicon (torn apart by Mixmaster, Long Haul and Rampage)
Alice (crushed against a telephone pole by Mikaela's car)
The Doctor (if memory serves, shot by Prime)
Grindor (head torn in half by Prime)
Insecticon (torn in half by Sam)
Ravage (spine torn out by Bumblebee)
Rampage (arms ripped off by Bumblebee)
Devastator (blown to pieces by a US Navy rail gun)
Purple Arcee (shot by some protoforms)
Pink Arcee (shot by some protoforms)
Mixmaster (chopped in half, head ripped off by Jetfire)
Scorponok (torn in half by Jetfire)
Protoform 1 (head blown off by somebody, can't remember who)
    Protoform 2 (shot by NEST)
Protoform 3 (shot by NEST, and crushed under a falling column)
Protoform 4 (blown up by a military airstrike)
Long Haul (blown up by a military airstrike)
Jetfire (stabbed through the chest by Scorponok, rips his own spark chamber out)
The Fallen (speared through the chest, punched through the head by Jet-Prime)

That's roughly in order, anyway. Also LOTS of humans die. Plenty of NEST soldiers, and according to the news reports, at least 7000 people in coordinated Decepticon attacks around the world (this includes the attack on the USS Roosevelt aircraft carrier).

I ran a giveaway for my theater's midnight showing and asked that same question. No one got it. :(  Tho if they did, they'd have won a Prowl statue.

I agree that the humor was offputting. I understand why Bay did it, but it was really dumb and distracting.

One thing I did notice, (and if this has already been covered in thread I'm sorry but I'm not reading all 200+ pages) after how Prime takes down both Megatron and the Fallen at the end, I don't know how they're going to make him (Megatron) seem like a real threat in the next movie. They need to do something as he now looks pretty weak and cowardly like Starscream.
