Roy has forgotten Scrapper. He's the guy who throws the mace-like weapon. I think they based that on rumours. Considering another article from Empire for showcasing the cast had no information other than what had been officially released or unofficially leaked, used leaked images (such as Devastator complete with the chinese website's URL) and in some cases used G1 bio information for Revenge of the Fallen characters, I think it's safe to say Empire doesn't know what it's talking about half the time.
OPr: Well, the time is a problem, for sure, but it's not unsolvable. Movies often use shortcuts. For example, you can link characters to archetypes, or blend a few, so that the development has already been done. Everybody knows the old warrior, or the lovable scoundrel. Add a few original bits and bingo, character. You don't need much screen time at all for this. Watch Star Wars to see how this is done. The Autobots and Megatron in the first movie got some of this treatment. We already knew the archetypes; the movie assigned them. I think this approach succeeded very well with Optimus, Ironhide, and Ratchet. It didn't work so well for Jazz, who was supposed to be the "conscience" of the team, but set the wrong mood with his first line. The vulgarity wasn't the problem. I thought that was funny, although "little glitches" would have been better yet. More TF-geeky. But it imbued him with a certain carefree attitude that he really did not have, as seen later, and he didn't get the screen time needed to reconcile the two conflicting notes...which could have been done. The other Decepticons, except for Frenzy, were almost treated like Stormtroopers. This is unfortunate. (Edit: The writers attempted to link Screamer to his old archetype, but I don't feel it really succeeded, because the single line of dialogue was too isolated, and his desertion from the city battle was too easily missed.) Frenzy and Bumblebee are special cases. Both of them got enough screen time to develop a unique character. Looking at Prime, I say "That's the Prime I know, but with a little twist". I don't recognize these two like that, but by the end of the movie, I have a pretty good idea who they are and how they might act in various situations. Here's a cookie for anybody who reads to this point. -> O
You have a point, AP. And thank you for actually explaining a way to do it instead of saying "Your wrong, it can be done."
Really, the only thing I can think of that they ever mentioned that has been undelivered, is an explanation for what happened to Blackout. We even saw his alt-mode in pictures from at least one of the sets while they were filming.
nobody forced Bay or anyone else to include so many new characters. nobody forced Bay to rush this movie out to the theater. I would have been happy with half as many robots and a better, more cohesive story and better character development. if this movie is rushed and half assed, it is not my fault for noticing. it is the director's/studios's/producer's faults. they could have waited another year and made a better movie, instead we get visuals that are transformers 2 but a story that is transformers 1.5.
Wasn't really a promise but I remember when Oric was answering our questions and the impression was the Decepticons would be holding up better in the second film. Yet from all the rumors and reviews I've been reading the 'Cons are still mostly jobber cannon fodder to be taken out by the Autobots and their uber powerful Human allies. Instead of the sequel the writers were talking about it seems so far like it's the same as the first movie with just more robots and more explosions. Still the same we've got to find the MacGuffin for a happy ending because the villains are nothing without the MacGuffin. Not exactly pushing things forward like they had hinted. But like someone else said who knows what got changed after they handed in the script. Writers are pretty much the bottom of the totem pole in Hollywood.
No, I do not think that is a coincidence. I am sure that is exactly what the designers meant to do. But that does not mean that they combine into one bot. In fact, if I remember correctly, didn't that Movie universe book state that they were once one protoform that split in two? That would be MORE than enough explination for that. I bet that was in the write up they got. Design two robots that had been one. Asymetry. Seriously, you need to relax a little. None of that stuff was promised. Hell, you could add to that list the idea that Arcee was going to be Mikaela's bike. There is enough evidence to support that theory (HA Mikaela comes with Arcee, she rides an organish pink motorcycle, she works for a bike shop, ect.) It didn't happen in the final movie though. Things change.
The only promise I remember was that the director will make tons of money and he did. And there were supposed to be a lot more robots in TF2 and there were. Even though most did not speak any line.
the only thing promised is "more giant ***king robots " And that is what we will get Well I know for sure we'll get more giant robots, I don't know about the ***king part. That might be kinda strange for a PG-13 movie
The argument about skids and mudflap is rediculous in my opinion... As bay said they are the "comic releaf team" who said comedy had to come out of the mouth..sometimes its a physical deformality
By character development - i mean i would have been happy if each character got as much character deveopment as jazz, which was done in 1 to 2 minutes screentime - easily acheivable in a 2.5 hour film. It was enough for you to know what type of person he was, plus you got a good clear look at his design. ''IT CAN BE DONE''
Skids and Mudflap - may have come from the same protoform; maybe this will explained in Movie 3 or in a comic
I'm sure that won't stop complaints about the fact that this 150 minute movie doesn't feature the same character development that you get in a 26 episode sundicated TV series.
That's the entire fucking point of being a successful director. Michael Bay isn't here to shit out a remake of More Than Meets the Eye part 1, 2 and 3 for you The purpose of the movies is to further the franchise, and its doing a splendid job of that.
