Just a quick look of a repaint I did for Brawl. Not the best one you'll see but atleast he doesn't look so much like a cheap plastic toy. Thanx for looking.
I just recently posted mine too! I like the gold look of the metallic parts, it's a neat twist on what you usually see. The glowing eyes in the second pic are awesome! If you get in the mood you should do some dry brushing, it really brings him out more and makes him look a bit battle-worn too. Kudos though!
Man, your paint adds are smooth. Did you airbrush this guy? Also, I would suggest a little drybrushing as well. Just a tad bit lighter green would make him really pop!!!!
what is this "drybushing" you all speak of? i didn't airbrush it, just used paint brush and acryl paint "marine green" i think.
If you take a look at the Brawl I posted here recently you'll get a good idea (since it stands out so much). There are helpful tutorials avaiable online, but it's basically dipping your brush (don't wet it first) in the paint, then actually whipping off almost all of that paint on a papertowel (or similar surface) and then using the brush to lightly go over the edges of your figure. I did the dry brushing on my Brawl in silver, so it really pops and is east to see. It seems a little intimidating at first, but once you try it you'll understand why it's such a great tool to use.
^Oh, it's best to use a brush with short, firm bristles for this technique....since it's not really the same long stroke technique that you probably used to paint your figure.
might have to try that on some junk useless toy. i was exaggerating not knowing what it is. but I have never tried that technique? how dry exactly? i guess i should rename this as W.I.P
Oh, gotcha! Um, I'd say pretty darn dry. Besides it would be best to always start off light and build up, then to start with too much paint and possibly mess up. Sure try it on a junker if you have one. In all honesty it's super easy though, once you try it you'll wonder why you might have had any reservations about it in the first place (at least that's how I felt before I tried it). If you don't have a junk toy just use your Brawl, start off light so not to mess anything up, and build up from there. Once you've been doing it for all of 5 minutes you'll know already exactly how much to use each time.
No, not for this particular repaint. Basically the idea behide it is that you are highlighting the figure. So, normally this would mean you would use a lighter color. I would suggest either a lighter shade of green, like a poster above mentioned, or a silver like I used. A silver color dry brush will actually make Brawl look like he is made of metal, but painted green over top of that, which is kinda cool, considering he's a tank. You can use a darker color to dry brush when your your base/main color is a light color, but I'd only reccommend doing so if the figure is already a very light color, and in this case you'd probably only want to dry brush the figure with a shade that it just slightly darker than that base color. Also, on this dry brushing, you don't want to do it all over the figure. Just on edges to highlight them. For example, any pieces that form 90 degree angles, or other sharp angles. Don't do this on a flat surface, since then you wouldn't actually be 'highlighting' anthing that stands out on the figure itself. However, once you master, or get comfortable with the technique, you can definately dry brush flat areas to enhance them, but start off with edges.
You know, considering you have gold, and you used it on the figure already, you could do this with the gold color. It would make him look like he is made of gold, or has a gold plating over his metal....which then was painted over in green. Just a thought.
lol actualy its copper. but I do have a steel colored paint. i guess it looks like gold under the lamp. QUESTION-do the pictures look a bit blurry? i think i messed up on that
Not really. They look a heck of a lot better than mine that's for sure! One day I'll buy a real camera, it's almost seemingly pointless to attempt to show off repaints with crappy pics! I'd say yours are a bit dark, but don't appear blury....maybe his legs a bit, but nothing major since the majority of the detail is from his torso up.
