You can easily reach about 42 unique designs if you include maybe about 6 Kitchen robots, the Insecticon and the tiny crawling spies from Ravage.

This is just one person's review and he has the right to his opinion on it. You may have a different opinion of the movie once you seen it.

Christ, you'd think some people have never seen nameless cannon fodder henchmen before.

Quick. Think of an action movie: A great one, a bad one, a new one, an old one, etc.
Does that movie contain scads of bad guys with no characterization who all look about the same? Of course it does! It's an action movie!

okay, maybe my standards are a bit high, but I don't like the idea of them populating a battle scene with a buch of drones is no good.

it was fail for energon, and it will probably be fail for the live action movie. It takes away from the idea that the transformers are individual robots with personalities.

Still, I might be wrong. maybe it won't matter. to be honest, I am still going to see the movie.

Well at least they're doing some slight variations on the generics like color-schemes or different heads.

The use of extras is unavoidable once the battles become bigger.
It is probably Hasbro's idea to use repaints in the movies to help sell toy repaints, altho the movie people also save money by using some repaints in the movies.

And seriously, what did anybody expect from the 42 robots?

Can you think of any movie where 50+ characters (there's humans in there, too) get named, characterized, and spotlighted? It would be a schizophrenic disaster of story telling.

Hell, look at cartoons and comics even. Remember Vortex, Blast-off, Pipes, Thrust, First-Aid, Slingshot, Wildrider, etc etc etc from the G1 cartoon? Remember how great their personalities were and how their plentiful dialog endeared them to us all? Neither do I because they just sat there in the background so the real characters could talk.

I think, we only see the robotmode of demolisher in the beginning. Then at the end, we only see his altmode when combining to devastator (as scavenger - demolisher repaint). This is my theory.

I agree that my only real problem is with Blackout/Grindor. At least there is red and yellow Rampage, and other color variations, but Grindor's colors, at least from the trailers, are nearly indistinguishable from Blackout. The general audience will probably think "WTF? Didn't he die?" Since he has no lines, characterization, etc. (he actually does have one line in the comic). But even if he is named as Grindor, the general audience doesn't remember the name Blackout as opposed to "giant helicopter robot." Just having an identical bot appear with no explanation, especially when the first one died last time, is a majorly confusing thing, as is this post probably.

That's really unfortunate that they used generic "repaints." You'd think that, with a toy product line that's so varied on both the Autobot and the Decepticon side, they could have at least culled some background characters from the ROTF basics line-up.

Big ol' boo to 'lame sexual inuendos' and 'bust a cap in yo' ass stereotypes'.

Looks like expectations on any dialogue content should stay as rock-bottom as the first one. Hopefully the action covers for it, but sigh @ the lameness...

Also disappointing that many of the new characters are but one or two scene bit-part extras. And then there's the extra-extras (things like constructicons running around after Devi is already formed don't sound good).

I for one figured ALL of this information already. I wanted Arcee to have a significant role in this movie. There is no point in having her in the movie if all she does is show up in the beginning. They could have at least had her be Mikaila's companion. An Arcee/Pretender Alice girl fight would have made for a great scene too. IMO this movie will be great but full of missed opportunities or badly implemented ideas.

Good point, his characterization was horrid and he had what, one line per movie? Oh, and was killed in an old vaudeville long stick gag, to pay off a burp joke.
