...How the hell is that even relevant!? Hasbro could send designs to Takara in two seconds just by e-mail to keep work going. location is no problem nowadays.

Distribution also got ZERO to do with design process, Takara helped on every freaking TFA toy and guess what? They still didn't get any.

    About the combiners.

The legends you just saw, Jetstorm/Jetfire, OPTIMUS/JETFIRE combo and other two or three.

Hasbro originated in the US (started by the Has....something Brothers, which is where they get Has-Bro from) and I'm assuming (but don't really know for sure) that Takara originated in Japan. They're separate companies who worked together (on at least this particular property) as opposed to some kinda merger (such as Takara did with Tomy).
Evidently Takara has to compete in more of a niche marketplace, so their products tend to be more collector oriented (MPs, extra paint apps on stuff we get over here: if the complaint was on that kinda thing then I feel your pain). Hasbro goes for the broadest marketplace they can get; kids.
Most of the recent main-line stuff (pretty sure the AEC stuff all worked this way, including the combiners) is a collaborative effort to help minimize the design costs and get added input (on a line with the complexity of TFs, this is a VERY good thing).

Sorry about being a dick with my posts; I could've said my peace without doing that.

Since everyone seems to not get the just of the Converstation. A Combiner in term of Energon. A 5 or 6 bot Combiner like Energon or better?

    Thats Cool.

Yes they do, specially the Legends one which is proof that Hasbro can do stuff when, y'know, drop tests and safety laws ain't cutting back on stuff again.

If it combines it's a combiner, they use the same tab technology, go through the same safety tests and probably the same engineering revisions.

Except that on the jets cases they don't have major weight problems due to a gorilla like design, yet like every combiners they have people crying on the internet about 'em not being frenzy_rumble level combiners that would cost 500 bucks just to produce.

It's important to remember that WE like combiners, but whether or not they are the best way for Hasbro to make money is an entirely different story.

I need Nevermore to swoop in here with a more complete answer, but there was talk back at the time of the Energon combiners release that Hasbro was concerned about having multiple concurrent waves of a single size class that contained NOTHING but combiner parts. Very risky. Releasing a giftset at a high pricepoint for toys that barely appeared in the series... even more risky, so much so that they didn't do it in the US.

It's my feeling that the lack of combiners over the last few years is a matter of perceived sales and profitability, not a matter of technical incompetence on the part of Hasbro/Takara.

I keep checking back to this thread to see if anybody latched on to my other point: does anybody else suspect that maybe Overload attaches to Devastator's head, so as to give him the longer, redder head that we saw in the trailer? Maybe his regular figure will attach to the giftset? Or maybe they just hid him somehow?

Can you imagine trying to track them all down if they're single releases? I really hope they're released as a set in the US.

    They did not.

    they will.

    just like TAKARA WILL.

and I promise you, takara helped design and sculpt that crappy $100 combiner. They did solicit it already, you know.

just like I promise you, hasbro helped design THIS legends class combiner.

WHY do you expect hasbro to put their name on takara's product solicitations, that arent even meant to go out to the public? takara's name isnt on hasbro's retailer solicitations.
