Judging by how Star Trek has bombed in it's last few films, and how the first live action Transformers film was the biggest non-sequel of 2007, ROTF will most liekly come out on top and may even become the number one movie of the year.

I know it's silly to even mention this, and we all know the likely outcome, but...weirder things have happened (and you know it as well as I do)

What if G.I. Joe ended up being the film to beat? What if the trailer was unintentionally bad to give a cheese feel, but you actually get there, watch the film, and it's nothing like you expect?

I've had that happen. Of course those movies didn't have a huge box office take, but I was surprised to see that the end result was a lot different than I'd imagined.

I'd find it funny enough to laugh.

Yea it's always tough to guess exactly how the summer will shape up. For all we know GI Joe could be the dark horse in the race for being the new film instead of being a reboot or a sequel. Or heck some kids movie movie might blow everything else out of the water because there is no way I ever would have predicted Shrek 2 would make as much money as it did.

Only safe call right now is that Wolverine will not be the top movie. With an opening weekend of about $85 million and having to face Star Trek this weekend numbers aren't looking so good for Wolverine's chances at the top summer box office.

i deff. agree with you there.
its jsut the thing the way i see the oscars and how films actual do in theaters should determine who wins the big thing not based a group of critics cause honestly since LOTR one for best picture i havent seen a good movie that one since then but this is just a whole nother topic lol

Like i said before Trek will do great and be announced as the winner until ROTF comes out deff think its gonna top the first film by allot!!

That's why I put no faith at all in the Academy Awards. The Academy is just totally out of touch with what so many of the average people think. Sort of like Dark Knight getting snubbed on best picture because it was a comic book based movie and it dared to make money.

People's Choice, MTV Movie Awards, Spike Awards, I tend to put more faith in those because it gives you better idea of what normal people think and the Hollywood politics is taken out of it.

The box office I generally ignore the first week because that only tells you how well the advertising did. If a film continues to have good box office after the opening week that gives you a better idea that people have either latched on to it enough to watch it again, telling their friends about the movie, or going back to see it again with friend who haven't seen it yet.

deff will be one of the best summer movies #1 for sure becuase i dont see any movie coming out tha twil topple it deff dont see GI JOE doing it!!

Didn't a Michael Bay movie get trumped by some film about penguins one year? Never can tell what will come out on top sometimes.

Me, I'm a proud member of both.

Although I do hope they don't bring out Lego Star Trek, especially no video games; I have no time as it is, with something else occupying it.

Star Trek. After seeing the reboot, experiencing the new fans and hearing the positive reaction, methinks we may be overestimating TF2s performance.

I want to say ROTF, but Star Trek is a worthy opponent.

The star trek movies have never won over non-star trek fans, where as in 2007 TF won non-TF fans over, so I betting ROTF will be bigger.

Also, I saw Star Trek, liked it, but still think ROTF will be better; honestly we shouldnt be comparing the 2. It should be more about Star Trek vs Star Wars

This. Although I have heard from everyone, yes, everyone that the new Star Trek is good. Dark Knight good.

I expect Star Trek to be a MUCH better film, but I think ROTF will pull more cash when the dust settles. I'll be seeing Star Trek for myself in a few weeks (I hate public theaters, with people's cell phones, talking during the film, crying babies, etc.).

I definitely enjoyed Star Trek and thought it was a great bit of summer movie, but I don't see it having much replay value for me. I'm curious to see the first couple weekend totals to see how well it attracts non-fans. I won't rule out Trek pulling bigger numbers, but ROTF definitely has a shoe in.

On another note, two minor things really bugged me about Star Trek: One, I wasn't a huge fan of Chris Pine as Kirk; Two, a massively flawed use of time travel.

I could see Star Trek getting many people in just based on curiosity about the refresh of the old crew and stuff. People have seen Bay's robots now and the jumbly bumbly trailer doesn't really show enough that casual movie goers may realise is new. To their eyes it probably looks like being just more of the same and some may skip it because of that. I'm sure a chunk of BayFormer's last box office was curiosity sales.
